Nissan Australia Building GT-R Restoration ShopNissan Australia (Nissan Australia)American enthusiasts know that the golden age of Skyline GT-Rs—the R32, R33, and R34 generations—are legendary figures in the Japanese auto industry. What some might not know is that they were also major figures in Australia. An R32 GT-R won the country's biggest race, the Bathurst 1000, back-to-back in 1991 and 1992, quickly establishing the super-Skylines as antipodean powerhouses. Now, classic GT-R owners Down Under are receiving some official support from Nissan. As the brand announced Thursday, Australia's Nissan division is set to open a GT-R shop at a dealership in Ferntree Gully, a suburb of Melbourne. [Not to be confused with the 1992 film Fern Gully starring Icon's Jonathan Ward. —Ed.] The shop will link Japan's Omori Factory, the heart of Nissan's performance division, directly with Australian customers who have classic GT-Rs of their own. Services will notably include full restorations, opening the door for Australian owners to receive access to the same sort of factory-backed rebuild that had previously not been available in the relatively remote country. The R32-through-R34-generation GT-Rs have long been a focus for Nissan's heritage parts team. RB26 inline-sixes, for instance, went back into production all the way back in 2019. Nissan added more new R32 parts in 2024, and shops like the one in Australia give the company physical locations to ensure that owners of the company's most beloved coupes can keep their cars in representative shape for decades to come. With that kind of support, Nissan can keep its legendary performance reputation on the road even without a new GT-R on dealership floors for some time. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
