The result borrowed its 4.7-liter V-12 from the F1 program before the unit found its way into the 333 SP racer, and the whole drivetrain doubled as a structural, load-bearing part of the carbon-fiber chassis, a trick lifted straight from grand prix cars. Pininfarina wrapped it all in flowing, curvaceous bodywork with a removable hardtop that let owners switch between barchetta and berlinetta configurations. Built in November 1995 and completed the following February, it left the factory in Rosso Corsa over a black interior with red seat inserts and was delivered new through Beverly Hills Sports Car. According to research compiled by marque historian Marcel Massini, the car passed quickly through a Southern California dealer before landing with its first private owner: Mike Tyson, who bought the F50 in 1996 not long after reclaiming his heavyweight titles. Photo: Robin Adams, courtesy of RM Sotheby's.Over the following two decades the F50 moved through a string of dedicated collectors, including a Seattle-area technology executive who showed it at the 2004 Kirkland Concours d'Elegance, an Atlanta owner who commissioned service work through Francorchamps of America, and a longtime Ohio caretaker who fitted a new fuel tank and saw the car through its most significant milestone: a January 2008 Ferrari Classiche Red Book certification confirming the matching-numbers engine, transaxle, and bodywork are all still original to the chassis. More recent owners in New Jersey and Florida kept the car serviced before it landed in the hands of an RM Sotheby's client whose estate now offers it for sale. At the time of cataloguing the odometer read 6,196 miles, and the car was freshly serviced by Ferrari of Newport Beach ahead of the sale.
