Mercedes-Benz will introduce more than 15 new and refreshed models to the Chinese market, spanning multiple powertrain types and covering its full product portfolio. Mercedes-Benz recently released its 2025 sales results. The data show that the automaker’s global sales fell 9% year-on-year to 1.8 million vehicles, marking one of its weakest performances in recent years. The decline was particularly pronounced in China. Amid intensifying competition from domestic Chinese brands, Mercedes-Benz delivered 575,000 vehicles in China in 2025, including passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, down sharply from 714,000 units in 2024, representing a year-on-year drop of 19%. Sales overview of Mercedes-Benz Cars for 2025 Mercedes-Benz said it is facing challenges in China stemming from structural volatility in the luxury car market as well as adjustments in its own product cycles. Looking back at 2025, China’s luxury car market came under significant pressure. Data from the China Passenger Car Association show that the market share of vehicles priced above RMB 400,000 ($57,360) and those priced between RMB 300,000 and RMB 400,000 ($43,000–57,360) fell to 5.2% and 8.4%, respectively. By contrast, vehicles priced below RMB 50,000 ($7,200) and those in the RMB 50,000–100,000 range ($7,200–14,300) saw their market shares rise to 3.5% and 13.8%, respectively. Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the CPCA, said China’s auto market in 2025 continued to exhibit a pattern of “contraction at the high end and expansion at the low end.” Mercedes Maybach S-Class This shift was also evident in the ultra-luxury segment. In December last year, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class recorded monthly sales of 1,118 units in China in the over-RMB 700,000 ($100,000) luxury sedan category, roughly one-quarter of the volume posted by the segment’s top-selling model, the Maextro S800. Even so, Mercedes-Benz remains competitive in the million-yuan-plus luxury segment, with deliveries of the Maybach GLS in China rising nearly 14% year-on-year in 2025. Mercedes Maybach GLS Product expansion will be one of Mercedes-Benz’s key priorities in 2026. According to its plans, the company will introduce more than 15 new and refreshed models to the Chinese market, spanning multiple powertrain types and covering its full product portfolio. At the same time, under its strategy of parity between internal-combustion and electric vehicles in both performance and intelligence, Mercedes-Benz will roll out new models based on its three dedicated electric platforms: MB.EA, AMG.EA and VAN.EA. The first mass-production model based on the MB.EA platform, the all-new Mercedes-Benz electric GLC SUV, will launch a locally produced long-wheelbase version in China within the year, featuring air suspension. A new-generation S-Class sedan and a new long-wheelbase GLE SUV model will also be introduced to the Chinese market during the year.
