A car salesman has revealed a little-known trick for Ford drivers. Nate (@deals.with.nate), who sells Fords and regularly posts car advice, opens his TikTok with a bold claim. “Ninety-nine percent of Ford owners have no idea that your key fob can do this,” he says. He then tells viewers to try the feature the next time they’re near their car and walks through how it works. First, Nate says, make sure the vehicle is locked. Then press the unlock button once, twice, and hold it down on the third press. In his video, that sequence triggers all the windows to roll down at once. “Instantly, all the vehicle’s windows roll down to keep you cooled off on a summer day,” Nate says. He encourages viewers to follow him for more tips and tricks like this. As of this writing, the clip has surpassed 214,600 views. How Does This Work? The feature Nate shows is built into many Ford key fobs. It’s often called a “global open” function, and it’s designed to quickly air out the car without needing to get inside first. In most cases, the way it works is fairly simple. After locking the car, press the unlock button, then press and hold it for a few seconds. On some models, it takes two quick presses before holding the button down. Once it kicks in, the windows roll down all at once. Some vehicles also allow you to reverse the process by holding the lock button to roll the windows back up, though that doesn’t work on every model. The feature is meant to help cool the cabin on hot days, especially if the car has been sitting in the sun. It can also be useful for letting heat escape before you get in. That said, it’s not always turned on by default. Drivers may need to enable it through the vehicle’s settings menu for it to work. It’s also limited by distance. The key fob needs to be within range of the car—just like when locking or unlocking the doors. And like many tech features, it doesn’t behave the same across every Ford. Some drivers have claimed it doesn’t work on their vehicle, while others say it stopped working after a software update. Viewers Share Thoughts On Hack Commenters who came across Nate’s video were either impressed or grateful he shared it—but others said it didn’t work on their vehicles. “Tried it on my 2023 F150,” one commenter said. “That ish didn’t work at all.” “I think my Ford is broken,” another user joked. “Only the front windows worked on the Explorer,” a third wrote. “But can you put them back up?!?” Some viewers also questioned the feature’s point altogether. “Why do I need to let my windows down? I can just turn my air conditioner on to have it nice and cool in my vehicle,” one person asked. “Never seen a use for this feature,” another chimed in. “Autostart with A/C wins every time.” “Nah, I’m turning my A/C on with my phone 15 mins before,” a third added. Others pointed out that Ford models aren’t the only cars with this capability. “It works on a car I had 15 years ago,” one commenter noted. “I’ll try it on one I have now.” “My 2006 Saab did that,” another recalled. “Nothing new.” “General Motor vehicles you pushed the button once and hold it and all the windows go down; if you want the windows up, you push the lock button once then hold it in the window is closed.” “Damn Hondas have had this since 2007,” another wrote.
