Lucid has unveiled its robotaxi at CES 2026 in partnership with robotics firm Nuro, and Uber Technologies, and the robotaxi service will be launched in San Francisco, California in the United States later this year, the American camaker has announced. Based on the Lucid Gravity three-row SUV, the robotaxi commenced autonomous on-road testing last month, with Nuro leading testing of the robotaxi prototypes under the supervision of autonomous vehicle operators, according to Lucid. Using the Nvidia Drive AGX Thor autonomous vehicle computing platform, the Lucid Gravity-based robotaxi features a sensor array comprised of high-resolution cameras, solid-state lidar sensors, and radars with 360-degree perception, and the sensors are located throughout the vehicle’s body and in the roof-mounted halo, says Lucid. The roof-mounted halo on the vehicle has integrated LEDs for riders to able to easily identify the correct robotaxi, as well as to display the rider’s initials. Inside, the Lucid Gravity robotaxi can accommodate up to to six passengers as well as “generous luggage space”, and the cabin offers riders a display that shows visualisation of what the robotaxi sees through its suite of sensors and its planned path in real time. This includes manoeuvres such as yielding to pedestrians, slowing at traffic lights, changing lanes, and dropping off passengers. In addition to controls for seat heating, climate control and music, interactive screens in the Lucid Gravity robotaxi enable riders to contact support, or to request for the vehicle to pull over and stop. “Our robotaxi program with Uber and Nuro is a key part of how Lucid is leveraging its technology to create a more sustainable future of mobility that is widely accessible. Our engineering, range and interior comfort offers a unique platform, and when combined with Nuro’s technology and Uber’s scale, we are collectively building an experience like no other,” said Lucid VP of ADAS and autonomous Kay Stepper. Pending final validation, the robotaxi version of the Lucid Gravity is expected to enter production at the Lucid plant in Arizona later this year. First unveiled in November 2023, the Lucid Gravity is the California-based carmaker’s second model after the Air that made its debut in September 2020. From launch, the Gravity offered a claimed 440 miles (704 km) of range from a 120 kWh battery, and its 900-volt electrical architecture can take DC charging at up to 350 kW to add 320 km of range in around 15 minutes.
