Jaguar Type 01 to Make Official Debut This OctoberJaguarTake it from someone who's lived here for two decades: New York City is a wonderful place in the fall. Central Park takes on shades of gold and ochre, crisp breezes frolic down concrete canyons, and falling temperatures render the scent of urine practically undetectable. Autumn's beauty here is matched only by its brevity, which makes it all the more magnificent; five, six weeks of open jackets and sweet air between the subtropical weight of summer and the unforgiving gray of November through March. All of which, perhaps, is why Jaguar has chosen to debut its brand-redefining Type 01 electric gran turismo in the Big Apple this October.JaguarThe word comes directly from Jaguar Land Rover chief operating officer Leonard Hoornik, who made the announcement during JLR's 2026 Investor Day presentation on June 17. "We will launch it in October, in New York, in a very very special way," he said, "and from then onwards, it's all 'go.'" (You can hear it below at the 58-minute mark, where you'll also see JLR quoting our own Mike Austin's test drive of the Type 01 prototype on the presentation slide.)JLR also used the investor presentation to discuss its plans for the LR side of the abbreviation across the Range Rover, Defender, and Discover sub-brands. The company announced that the first new model on its new electric-focused EMA platform will be a Range Rover that will offer both EV and hybrid variants, more details about which will be revealed later in 2026; the second SUV on the platform will be a Defender model that will also offer the same choice of powerplants.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe company also said it will use the Defender nameplate as the focus of its U.S. market-oriented collaboration with Stellantis, which JLR says involves "exploring new opportunities targeted at North American clients." In other words ... I wouldn't be shocked to see, say, a new "Defender 150" that shares more than a little with the Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Ram's new Ramcharger. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
