Jaguar Type 01 Shows Its Living Room-Like InteriorJaguarThe exterior camouflage may be still firmly attached, but the Jaguar 01 EV grand tourer's interior is officially bare for all to see as of Tuesday evening.Making its debut appearance during Monterey Car Week, the Jaguar 01 interior is as much a revolution for the brand as its exterior design. Jaguar describes this concept as "four individual spaces," and while we can't see much of the rear seat in these photos, the large spine that runs from front to rear appears to create the separation Jaguar says it's aiming for.JaguarUp front, a large driver display that bleeds into the center of the dash immediately draws the eye. An oddly narrow, vertically-oriented central display looks like it houses key car controls for things like climate settings and radio controls, but if we had to guess, smartphone mirroring would be handled by the large screen in the dash. Jaguar skips the trendy passenger-side screen in favor of a long, flat dash with an integrated vent running the width of the cabin. But the weirdest screen of all of them is positioned at the base of the windshield, because this screen is actually your digital rearview mirror. Jaguar says it put the new "mirror" there because it's at the same height as the side view mirrors.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe steering wheel itself is a piece of art much like that in the forthcoming Range Rover GT, shown here in a two-tone, two-spoke design. A smattering of buttons are positioned on the two panels, thankfully with nubs and indentations that should make finding them by feel a little easier. What we can see of the doors reveals the same living room-like aesthetic found throughout the interior; you'll even find a brass-inspired finished Jaguar leaper positioned on the door panels. Brass is a theme repeated in several areas, most notably on the aforementioned central spine.Jaguar"Our holistic design philosophy translates the vehicle's exterior presence into a distinctive interior architecture," said Thomas Holden, Jaguar chief interior designer. "In contrast to the horizontal interior design norm, we emphasize its dramatic longitudinal nature through the central spine—an architectural statement that creates four individual spaces. With authentic materials, technology on demand and reductive flowing surfaces, Type 01 presents unmistakable drama and theater that will define the modern luxury automotive interior of the future."One detail we like to see is that Jaguar emphasizes a low seating position, something that's often compromised in EVs. There's a lot more than meets the eye here, too, as Jaguar teases hidden-until-needed technologies and unexpected moments of color found in concealed compartments.JaguarWe'll be looking forward to getting our hands on a 01 as soon as Jaguar allows it to see all the tricks up this car's sleeves. A full reveal is just around the corner on October 6. Jaguar intends to pull the cover off in New York, but in the meantime, the interior will be on display at Pebble Beach this coming Sunday. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
