Jaguar is trying to reinvent itself, and so far, the entire process has been quite strange. The company completely changed its branding, and released a shocking and divisive concept car. At the same time, its production lineup was ancient, with some models due to be discontinued entirely. Plus, the production car based on the concept was still a long way off. In fact, it was so far out that it didn't even have a final name. At least that last part is going to change soon as we grow closer to the production model's launch.Roger Biermann/CarBuzz/Valnet The Car Will Formerly Be Known As Type 00 Jaguar's concept was called Type 00, though it was clear that wouldn't be the final name. According to Autocar India, though, the production model will finally get its real name on May 12, just a week away from the time of writing. What that name will be is still a mystery.JaguarJaguar doesn't have a history of particularly exciting names. Most of them are just alphanumeric codes. The company's last supercar was the XJ220, and its most recent models were given either a pair of letters or a letter with a suffix of either "-Pace" or "-Type." The long-discontinued flagship was called the XJ, which could be a decent pick for this new flagship, though the rebranding would suggest Jaguar's trying to make a break with its past. The point is that we're expecting more alphanumerics from Jaguar, just maybe not the ones we've seen for decades.CarBuzz/Valnet It Will Be A Beast Of An EV Despite not knowing its name, we have learned a fair bit about Jaguar's new car since the Type 00's reveal. Spy shots have shown that the final styling will stick closely to that of the concept. It will retain the long nose and rear-set cabin with a seriously low fastback roof. It does look a bit longer overall to make space for four full-size doors. We've even had a glimpse of the interior, which has a steering wheel with a stark, rectangular center section that makes it appear to be a two-spoke design. So, it seems the interior will echo the blocky exterior.Apparently the car will feature three electric motors making around 1,000 horsepower, at least. Two motors will be at the front, with a large single motor at the back, and that rear motor will likely provide the lion's share of the power. It will have a battery pack with around 120 kWh of capacity and could go more than 400 miles on a full charge. It may even be able to regain 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes of DC fast-charging. Jaguar has also denied rumors that there will be a hybrid version, so you'd better be all right with it being an EV.We're expecting the car to reach customers next year, and a reveal will come this September. It will be the company's new flagship, and it will likely be priced to reflect that. We wouldn't be surprised at all to see a base price consisting of six figures.
