The ‘Type’ nomenclature pays homage to a term Jaguar has used since 1951, beginning with the Le Mans-winning C-Type and most recently with the internal-combustion F-Type, produced from 2013 to 2024.Jaguar Managing Director Rawdon Glover said: “We have reimagined Jaguar for a new era, with inspiration from what has gone before. Our engineers have achieved this with a vehicle that looks and drives like no other electric car, yet reflects a unique provenance. The Type 01 name is part of that story – for me, the zero also signifies a complete brand reset, and the ‘1’, our first car for a new chapter, a ‘one of a kind!'”In a press release, Jaguar elaborated on the Type 01 designation: the ‘0’ represents electric propulsion and zero-emission driving, while the ‘1’ marks it as the first Jaguar of a new era, as Glover also emphasised. The British brand from the JLR Group provided a controversial glimpse into its electric future with the Type 00 concept car in December 2024. Jaguar initially planned to unveil a four-door GT based on this concept by the end of 2025. However, delays pushed back the timeline, though photos of camouflaged prototypes emerged during test drives through ice and snow in February 2026.So far, Jaguar has revealed few details about the vehicle, with only the powertrain receiving mention. The Type 01 will feature an all-wheel-drive tri-motor architecture, comprising three electric motors—likely two at the rear axle. The system is expected to deliver over 1,000 PS (more than 736 kW), with Jaguar also specifying torque of over 1,300 Nm.Ahead of the Formula E races in Monaco this weekend, prototypes of the Type 01 completed several test laps on the Monaco Circuit. Jaguar stated that the development of the Type 01 was directly optimised using technology proven in motorsport by the championship-winning team Jaguar TCS Racing and its battery-electric race car.jaguar.com (Name), jaguar.com (Monaco)
