Jaguar's new Type 01 model is described as its 'most powerful road car'Jaguar has finally launched the electric car that thrust the marque into a storm of controversy – but this time a pink version was nowhere in sight. The Type 01, based on a concept car first revealed nearly two years ago, is designed to move the brand upmarket and will sell for £130,000.A four-door grand tourer that is described as "Jaguar's most powerful road car", it can go from nought to 62 miles per hour in just 3.2 seconds and has a range of up to 400 miles. The car also features a long bonnet, minimalist interior, 23-inch wheels and a retractable wing. The product description for Jaguar's new Type 01 left out pink when listing available coloursIt appears to have taken most of its design cues from the sleek, low-slung Type 00 concept car unveiled in December 2024, which controversially dropped the marque's renowned growling cat logo. The concept vehicle was compared to the FAB 1 car driven by Lady Penelope in the Thunderbirds because of its hot pink colour. However, that more garish paint job was absent as the car was launched in New York late on Tuesday, after a major backlash that saw prominent figures, including Nigel Farage and Donald Trump, attack the brand overhaul for being too "woke".Jaguar Land Rover has struggled to distance itself from the widely-mocked 'Barbie-style' electric concept car it unveiled in late 2024While bosses at parent company Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), which is owned by Indian conglomerate Tata, defended the rebrand, the company parted ways with the designer behind the rebrand late last year.An official product description of the new Type 01 conspicuously left out pink when listing what colours the vehicle comes in. Customers are instead told that the new electric vehicle (EV) comes in "visionary silver, dramatic white, iconic black, compelling blue and refined grey".Satin finishes in "modernist blue and mesmerising copper" are also available. The company said the car had been designed in Britain and would be made in Solihull. It will go on sale next year.PB Balaji, the chief executive of JLR, said: "The unveiling of Type 01 marks the beginning of an exciting new era for Jaguar."Combining British heritage, bold creativity, advanced technology and groundbreaking engineering, it reflects our ambition to create objects of desire that will help us invite a new generation of clients into Jaguar's loyal and passionate customer base."Designed, engineered and built in the UK, Jaguar is a copy of nothing and is a vital part of JLR's growth story."Jaguar said the new Type 01 had been designed in Britain and would be made in SolihullThe car's launch was also welcomed by Jonathan Reynolds, the Business Secretary. He said: "Jaguar's new EV is a crucial step in JLR's plans to invest over £15bn in the UK, and another big vote of confidence in our world-class automotive industry."This cutting-edge new model being designed, engineered and built in Britain will support thousands of jobs across the West Midlands and North West, and builds on over £1bn of UK automotive investment secured just last month – marking another step forward in our mission to reindustrialise Britain."Try full access to The Telegraph free today.
