Jaguar's Electric Four-Door GT Now Has a NameJaguarJaguar announced the name of its upcoming electric four-door GT, calling it the Type 01.The Type 01 will feature a tri-motor powertrain producing more than 986 horsepower and 958 pound-feet of torque.Jag's new EV will be fully revealed later this year, roughly two years after the company first showed the controversial Type 00 concept. We first got a taste of Jaguar's plan for a fully electric, more upmarket rebirth back in 2024, when the automaker showed off a radical concept that sent the automotive corner of the internet into a frenzy. Now, with the production car's arrival getting closer, we finally have an official name for Jaguar's electric four-door GT.JaguarThe concept was dubbed the Type 00, and Jaguar is taking a logical approach, announcing that the production model will be called the Type 01. Jaguar says the zero represents the electric powertrain and zero tailpipe emissions, while the one denotes the four-door GT as the first vehicle of Jaguar's new era. The "Type" naming scheme has a rich history at Jaguar, starting with the C-type that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans on its first attempt, before later appearing on the E-type, widely considered one of the most beautiful cars of all time. While we need to wait a bit longer for the car's full reveal, Jaguar did release a teaser, showing the name emblazoned on a thin bar that forms the so-called "strikethrough motif" where the hood meets the windshield. This feature was present on the concept car, suggesting that a lot of the design cues seen on the polarizing Type 00 could make production. The strikethrough, a series of horizontal lines, also appears in the new "leaper" logo that appeared on the Type 00's front fenders.JaguarJaguar also divulged a few details about the Type 01's powertrain. The four-door GT will feature a tri-motor setup, with over 986 horsepower and 958 pound-feet of torque. Previous reports have put the Type 01's starting price somewhere around $130,000. Jaguar says camouflaged Type 01 prototypes will make an appearance in Monaco ahead of the Formula E race there, with the full reveal happening at some point later this year.AdvertisementAdvertisement➡️ Skip the lot.
