Chrysler Considering New Model Starting Under $30KStellantisLast fall, Chrysler showed dealers a concept of an affordable new model called the Pronto, according to The Detroit News. While the body style is unknown, the Pronto was described as small and would carry a starting price in the $20,000 range. The report also says that dealers were shown small, affordable models under the Jeep and Dodge brands too.Chrysler showed signs of life earlier this year when it unveiled the refreshed 2027 Pacifica. Still, the minivan remains the brand's only model, and the changes were largely limited to new front-end styling. Chrysler told Car and Driver at the New York auto show that more news about its plans would arrive later this month during the Stellantis Investor Day. But now we have a hint of what to expect courtesy of The Detroit News, which reports that Chrysler has shown dealers a concept for an affordable model called the Pronto. The 1999 Chrysler Pronto Cruizer concept.StellantisThe Detroit News spoke with Dave Kelleher, a Chrysler dealer in Pennsylvania, who said he and other dealers were shown a concept last fall of a possible future Chrysler model called the Pronto. The model wasn't officially confirmed for production, but Kelleher said that it would start in the $20,000 range.Even more enticing, Kelleher told the publication that the dealers also saw similar models planned for Dodge and Jeep, both of which were smaller and more affordable than the vehicles currently in their lineups. We've reached out to Chrysler for confirmation and will update this story when we hear back.StellantisNo other details about the vehicle were mentioned, including the body style, but we wouldn't be shocked if the Pronto is a subcompact SUV. Interestingly, this is not the first time Chrysler has employed the name Pronto, showing a concept called the Pronto Cruizer in 1999, which previewed the PT Cruiser. That concept followed two others, the 1997 Plymouth Pronto hatchback (pictured at the top of this article) and the 1998 Plymouth Pronto Spyder, a sporty roadster.AdvertisementAdvertisementWhile the new Pronto was not officially confirmed for production as of the dealer meeting last fall, Chrysler CEO Matt McAlear, who also runs Dodge, separately told The Detroit News that affordable vehicles are "definitely part of the Chrysler future, and it's part of all of our brands' futures." The news of a sub-$30,000 model is just a rumor for now, but we expect to hear more about Chrysler's future plans at the Stellantis Investor Day next week.➡️ Skip the lot.
