Hyundai has given the MY27, fifth-gen Tucson a full reveal in Korea. Longer, wider compact SUV gains more powerful 1.6-liter engines. Expect October or November debut at either Paris or LA Auto Shows. Hyundai is rolling out a new Tucson for 2027, and we already got a look at its boxy new clothes a few weeks back. But now the Korean brand has dropped a load more facts about its fifth-generation compact SUV, including details about powertrains, plus one useful tech feature that might just get you out of a jam. That feature is called Memory Reverse Assist and as the name on the tin says, it exists to help you back out of a parking bay. The Tucson remembers the route you took to wedge yourself into a space, and can then use those details to extract itself from the spot without you having to touch the wheel. Related: Hyundai Sounds Alarm Over Chinese Cars In The US And given that the new Tucson is 60 mm (2.3 inches) longer and 40 mm (1.5 inches) wider than the one it replaces, and parking bays aren’t getting any bigger, Memory Reverse Assist could come in really handy. Mind you, so could the Hyundai‘s inflated dimensions. A 30 mm (1.1 inches) wheelbase stretch (to 2,785 mm /109.6 inches) promises more rear legroom and the taller, flatter roof improves second-row headroom by 29 mm (1.1 inches). Even getting in and out of the rear compartment should be easier now that the doors open by another 10 degrees. More Power, PHEV Still Under Wraps Also bigger this time around are the horsepower numbers, at least on Korean-market SUVs. US and Euro versions could differ. Korea’s base, 1.6-liter turbocharged mild-hybrid four now makes 190 hp (193 PS), up 13 hp (13 PS) on the outgoing Tucson’s 1.6, and comes bolted to an eight-speed automatic transmission instead of a seven-ratio DCT. There’s no mention of a manual option. Full-hybrid fans can still get their fix in the new Tucson line, and they also get a small power boost. The 1.6-liter full hybrid puts out 242 hp (245 PS) instead of 232 hp (235 PS), though any benefit would probably be swallowed up by the bigger and presumably heavier body. There’s no word on plug-in options, though it’s a certainty they’ll debut before long. And though it’s safe to assume the US will finally swap its 2.5-liter non-turbo, no-hybrid four for the blown 1.6, we’ll have to wait for official confirmation. XRT Ramps Up The Rugged Vibe The MY27 Tucson’s ‘Art of Steel’ design language represents a big departure for the SUV, and if you think you’ve seen it before, you’re probably thinking of the Crater concept Hyundai revealed in November 2025. Though the production Tucson doesn’t look quite as ready for a Baja record run, you can toughen it up even further by going for the XRT trim that gets a unique front grille, wheel arch trims and a skid plate. Tablet Takes A Bow Inside, the break from the outgoing Tucson is equally bold. Instead of a combined digital gauge cluster and media touchscreen, the new model gets a conventional tablet touchscreen running the brand’s Pleos infotainment system that’s paired with a small digital instrument readout embedded in the dashboard’s upper surface.The squared steering wheel has real clickable buttons, there’s another bank of real switches below the touchscreen tablet, and below that you get USBs capable of channeling 100 W to your devices. Other useful tech includes software designed to spot when you’ve pressed the wrong pedal at low speeds and limit the force. And if you still managed to mow someone down you’ll at least be able to watch it happen on the screen using the 360-degree camera’s ‘Ground View’ feature.We’re expecting to see the Tucson make its global and US debuts later this year, potentially at October’s Paris Motor Show, or November’s Los Angeles expo, a year on from the Crater concept’s reveal.
