On April 3, General Motors disclosed its latest data, showing that its retail sales in China reached approximately 350,000 units in the first quarter of this year. GM China sales in Q1 From a product mix perspective, GM is accelerating its restructuring. Buick has intensified its presence in the MPV segment, with its newly launched flagship new energy MPV exceeding 7,800 units in first-quarter sales. Together with the GL8 series, it forms a portfolio spanning internal combustion and new energy segments. Cadillac continues to show stable performance in the luxury segment. The XT5 recorded a 29% year-on-year increase, while the CT5 maintained steady output, indicating that demand for premium internal combustion vehicles still retains resilience. SAIC-GM-Wuling remains the primary volume driver. The Wuling Xingguang 730 and Xingguang 560 achieved sales of over 19,000 and 15,000 units respectively, reinforcing their position in the entry-level and family vehicle segments. Fifth-gen Wuling Hongguang MINIEV In March, SAIC-GM-Wuling introduced the fourth model of the Bingo family, the Bingo Pro, completing the lineup alongside the existing Bingo, Bingo S, and Bingo Plus. Subsequently, the fifth-generation Wuling Hongguang MINIEV was launched with four variants, priced at RMB 44,800–54,800 ($6,496–$7,946). To date, cumulative sales of the Hongguang MINIEV family have exceeded 1.9 million units, maintaining its leadership in the segment for 67 consecutive months. From a longer-term perspective, new energy vehicles have become the most critical growth driver for GM in China. In 2025, its NEV sales in China approached 1 million units, up 22.6% year-on-year, accounting for more than half of its total sales. Baojun Huajing S On the technology front, GM is also expanding external partnerships. The subsequent Baojun Huajing S, jointly developed by SAIC-GM-Wuling and Huawei, will be the first flagship model equipped with Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 4 Pro intelligent driving system, scheduled to debut on April 7 and launch in the first half of the year. At the upcoming Auto China 2026, GM is bringing its most refreshed portfolio of intelligent, electrified SUVs and flagships, including Cadillac VISTIQ, Buick Electra E7 and Baojun Huajing S.
