Nary a week after the Proton eMas 5 was launched here, Geely’s Thai distributor Thonburi Neustern announced that the electric hatch’s twin, the Geely EX2 (known as the Xingyuan in China), would be launched in late 2025. The Land of Smiles is said to be the first right-hand-drive market for the car – not including Malaysia, of course. The company said during its dealer conference that it will reveal the official price of the EX2 during the upcoming Thai Motor Expo, which opens to the press on November 28. It adds that the car is expected to be a key driver in expanding Geely’s customer base in Thailand, with over 400,000 units already sold in China since its launch there almost exactly a year ago. Being that it’s practically identical to the eMas 5, the EX2 will almost certainly be offered with the same two motor and battery options. Both are single-motor rear-wheel drive, with the base model producing 79 PS (58 kW) and 130 Nm of torque and delivering a scant 225 km of WLTP-rated range from its 30.12 kWh CATL lithium iron phosphate battery. The more powerful version churns out 116 PS (85 kW) and 150 Nm and, thanks to a larger 40.16 kWh LFP pack, gains a more useful range figure of 325 km. Both will take 21 minutes to charge from 30 to 80% thanks to DC fast charging inputs of 53 kW for the 30.12 kWh battery and 71 kW for the 40.16 kWh unit. Proton eMas 5 As it is in Malaysia, the EX2 should be significantly cheaper than its larger SUV sibling, the Geely EX5 (badged the Proton eMas 7 here). In Thailand, that car is currently on promotion in conjunction with the Thai Motor Expo, priced at 699,000 baht (RM90,200) for the base Pro and 849,000 baht (RM109,500) – significantly lower than the eMas 7 Prime (RM105,800) and Premium (RM119,800). The eMas 5, on the other hand, retails at RM56,800 for the Prime and RM69,800 for the Premium. Could we see the Thai version undercut it – perhaps at 399,000 baht (RM51,500) and 499,000 baht (RM64,400)?
