The Ford Mustang has always been the car that gave regular enthusiasts a taste of serious performance without the supercar price tag. But, things are changing and most high-end performance variants of Ford's legendary pony car are now out of reach for most of us. The latest news we caught wind of comes from our sister site, CarBuzz, with recent official confirmation from Ford that the new 2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC will start at $103,490. And that's before you start throwing in the optional equipment. But This Is A Supercharged Mustang That Means Business Ford Racing Yeah. That's a big number for a Mustang, but this is the variant of the Mustang that will sit just below the already legendary Mustang GTD. To put this price into perspective, Carbuzz also pointed out that an old 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 started at about $76,820, which is almost cheap, if we dare say so, in comparison to the new Dark Horse SC.But, what do you get for that six-figure price tag? Let's start with what's under the hood of the Dark Horse SC, because this thing is packing the kind of hardware you would expect from a serious performance machine, obviously. It uses a supercharged 5.2 liter V8, which is the same basic engine family that powered the GT500.Ford Racing Now, Ford has not officially dropped the power figures for this bad boy yet, but the old GT500 summoned 760 ponnies from hell and had 625 lb-ft of torque to slap you silly. So, taking this into account, the new 2026 Dark Horse SC should be a little bit more.We do know that power goes through a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, which means lightning-fast shifts. The car also gets MagneRide adaptive suspension, a system that constantly adjusts the dampers to keep the car planted whether you are cruising on the highway or pushing hard on track. Here is the official statement Carbuzz received from Ford:The pricing is accurate. Mustang Dark Horse SC starts at $103,490 and includes a supercharged 5.2-liter V8, Tremec seven-speed DCT, revised aerodynamics for improved downforce and better cooling compared to Mustang Dark Horse, a cutting-edge Variable Traction Control system originally deployed on Mustang GTD, and a next-generation MagneRide magnetic damping system. How It Stacks Up Against Other Performance Cars Ford RacingNow, the price of the Mustang Dark Horse SC might be just above $100,000, but once you add in all the goodies you are looking at something hovering around the $170,000 mark. That's a pretty steep price, but things get interesting when you compare the Dark Horse SC to other performance cars.Take for example, the Chevrolet Corvette E Ray, which starts around $108,000, which is only a few thousand more than Ford's base price. The Corvette makes 655 hp. Then there is the other Corvette, the Z06, which starts at about $120,190. Throw in more options again and that car can also creep up near $140,000.This is pretty much supercar territory, which means getting your hands on the 2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC is pretty much out of reach for most of us. It even hovers around Porsche territory, where you can get your hands on a spanking new Porsche 911 Carrera. But the Mustang will definitely have more power than all the cars mentioned above. So, while the new Mustang feels expensive for a pony car, it's still a performance bargain compared to everything else out there.
