The system will be able to find charging stations and automatically precondition the battery before arrival. Latitude AI, Ford's in-house software development company, will use the maps while developing what Ford describes as "next-generation self-driving technology." Ford said in a January announcement that Latitude AI is working on a software model to support self-driving capabilities that could include eyes-off autonomous driving.Ford's current driver-assistance system, BlueCruise, allows hands-free driving on select highway stretches when adaptive cruise control is active. It can adjust speed, change lanes, and keep the vehicle centered without driver input, though the driver must continue watching the road. The Apple Maps collaboration gives Ford another source of integrated mapping data as it works on future systems.
