Ferrari Driver Walks Away From Car-Splitting CrashCars & Coffee / FacebookA Ferrari SF90 Spider worth more than half a million dollars was destroyed in a violent crash on Australia's Gold Coast last weekend, but Maranello engineering meant the driver was able to emerge almost unscathed from the impact that left the hybrid hypercar ripped in two.According to a report by News.com.au, the driver was property investor and influencer Sam Gordon, who reportedly stuck a tree with such force that it tore the car in half—yet Gordon walked away with only minor injuries. In fact, he posted an update on his Instagram account just a few hours after the crash.Gordon had posted on social media a little over a year ago that he'd taken delivery of his "dream car," which happened to be a Ferrari SF90 Spider. Fast forward to this past Saturday at around 9:15 am, and that dream laid shattered in pieces on Rio Vista Blvd at Mermaid Waters on the Gold Coast of Australia. The driver made another social media post on Monday, in which he explained that this was a "freak accident," and that he was driving by himself and no pedestrians or other cars were involved in the crash. Queensland Police Service are still investigating the cause of the crash, according to News.com.au.AdvertisementAdvertisementGordon went on to thank the first responders, as well as Ferrari for building a car that kept him safe in the wreck. There's no doubt Ferrari invests heavily in occupant protection; the SF90, like all new cars, is designed to maintain the integrity of the passenger compartment during severe impacts while allowing other portions of the vehicle to absorb crash energy. However, one look at the pictures will tell you there also seems to have been a certain amount of luck that played into Gordon coming through almost unscathed. Had the tree made contact with the driver's door instead of behind it, the incident may have had a very different outcome. Consider this another reminder that even the world's most technologically advanced performance cars cannot overcome the laws of physics. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
