It also marked JOOPITER's move into the collector-car business, a category beyond the platform's existing sports, natural history, and cultural memorabilia offerings. The car was delivered new to Jordan in May 1997, during his final championship run in Chicago. Its tan leather cabin sits beneath a Rosso Barchetta exterior, and the car wears the Illinois plate "MJ 5." It was the car Jordan was photographed driving within hours of his fifth NBA title that June."This isn't just a world-record price for a Ferrari 550 Maranello. It's a testament to the passion surrounding Michael Jordan, to Ferrari collectors, and to a new generation chasing the icons of the 1990s and early 2000s," said John Temerian, CEO of CURATED. "More than anything, it signals a generational shift in collecting - in what people value, what they consider significant, and ultimately, how they look at these cars as assets."Jordan sold the car in 2002, after which it dropped out of public sight for over 20 years.Next up on the auction site will be a Lamborghini Reventon Roadster, one of just 15 built and presented with 29 miles on it.
