Broad Arrow Auctions expects this one-off to sell for up to $743,000. Niels van Roij Design spent more than 15,000 crafting this special 599 GTB. Extensive changes have also been made to the car’s tan-leather interior. Dutch designer Niels van Roij is the man behind a slew of stunning cars, including the stunning Rolls-Royce Silver Spectre Shooting Brake from several years ago and the equally exceptional Ferrari 550-based Breadvan Hommage. Earlier this year, he unveiled yet another wild Shooting Brake, and it’s heading to auction in October. Known as the Daytona Shooting Brake Hommage, you could easily be confused into thinking this is a bespoke creation built from the ground up. Instead, this one-off actually started out life as a Ferrari 599 GTB but has since had virtually every panel replaced. In fact, it’s been modified to such an extent that there’s not a single Ferrari badge in sight. Admittedly, that’s probably because the Italian brand is famously litigious when it comes to modifying its cars. Read: Most Wagons Load At The Back, This One-Off Ferrari Loads Through Butterfly Windows In crafting this remarkable car, van Roij took inspiration from the custom 1972 Ferrari 368 GTB/4 Daytona Shooting Brake created by Pennsylvania-based Chinetti-Garthwaite Motors. That car is said to have cost roughly four times the price of an original Daytona back in the day. This modern interpretation is expected to sell for between €450,000 ($514,000) and €650,000 ($743,000), about four times the going rate of a standard 599 GTB. It took more than 15,000 hours to design and craft the Daytona Shooting Brake Hommage. All that’s left of the 599’s original exterior are the doors, with every other panel replaced by hand-formed aluminum parts. We’re particularly fond of the car’s front end, with its distinctive grille, an orange accent, and slim headlights. Modern Meets Old Of course, the highlight of the car is its rear. The original 599 window has been replaced, and the roofline extended to provide that sexy Shooting Brake shape. Like the GTB/4 Daytona that inspired it, the new upright rear window remains fixed in place, while the two side panels open up like the wings of a butterfly, providing access to the rear cargo area. The car’s interior has also been modified extensively, and the instrument cluster now sits in the center of the dashboard, rather than behind the steering wheel. Power continues to come from the 599’s original 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V12 with 620 hp and 448 lb-ft (608 Nm) of torque.
