The Mazda3 gets new matrix LED headlights plus pedestrian markers. Adaptive cruise control now works with traffic sign recognition. European buyers still get the compact model with two engine choices. It’s been eight years since Mazda introduced the compact 3 at the end of 2018, and while it’s overdue for a replacement, the brand won’t even commit to a facelift. What the Mazda3 hatchback and sedan get for the 2027MY instead is a round of tweaks so subtle that spotting them takes a side-by-side comparison. Call it a light update, rolling out in Europe first with other markets to follow. One of the most significant changes made to the compact model is the adoption of new matrix LED headlights. These lights feature pedestrian marker lights and will reduce their intensity when you’re sitting in traffic to reduce glare. Mazda has also updated several i-Activsense safety systems. For example, the adaptive cruise control now works alongside the traffic sign recognition system, meaning you can transfer to a new detected speed at the touch of a button. Motorcycle detection has also been added to the emergency braking assistant and lane change assistant. Further Trim Tweaks Elsewhere, different European grades receive new gunmetal-look highlights through the cabin, although Mazda hasn’t ditched the piano black plastic found around the car’s center console. A new Homura Plus trim level has also been added to the line-up, featuring a 360-degree camera, parking aid with rear cross-traffic alert, heated black leather seats, and a 12-speaker Bose surround sound system. No powertrain changes have been made to the Mazda3 for 2027. In Europe, it can be configured with a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine producing 140 hp and 176 lb-ft (238 Nm) of torque, mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. Those seeking more power can opt for Mazda’s e-Skyactiv X 186 four-cylinder with a mild-hybrid system, producing 186 hp and 177 lb-ft (240 Nm) of torque, offered in front- and all-wheel drive configurations.
