If you ever thought that speeding on a highway is relatively danger-free — think again. A horrifying video has surfaced online showing the end of a high-speed pursuit in excess of 140 mph. The police footage shows a chase involving a Chevy Malibu at speeds of more than double the limit, and the terrifying conclusion. Taking your car to the limit might be fun on a track, but on a public highway things go wrong very quickly. Police Spotted A Chevy Malibu Speeding Through A Construction Zone Police Pursuits/ YouTubeThe dash cam footage from Arkansas State Police starts off relatively sedate. The cops respond to a Chevrolet Malibu sedan moving at high speed through a series of roadworks. However, the troopers quickly hit speeds of more than 130 mph as they attempted to catch the Malibu, finally reaching it traveling at around 110 mph. But that's when it starts to unravel for the speeder. The driver decided to not hang around to get a ticket, accelerating away. At 140 mph, the police are struggling to keep up, the Chevy pulling away in the fast lane of the highway. For a moment, it looks like the suspect might outrun the police, but then it all goes terribly wrong (or, even more wrong, should we say). The Malibu Doesn't Stay In One Piece For Long Police Pursuits/ YouTube Some Chevy Malibus (such as the sleeper 2.0-liter turbo of 2014 with Camaro power) will get to 155 mph, but getting near this speed on a curving public highway is certainly not advised. The Malibu in question comes into a sweeping right-hander at around 140 mph. There is a burst of dust kicking up from the rear tire, perhaps as the car runs wide, before it starts to fishtail. "He's about to wreck out," says the pursuing officer, and he's not wrong. The Malibu spins almost 180 degrees before slamming into the median cable barrier. Suddenly the car is somersaulting down the carriageway, before landing on its roof. There is debris everywhere, the contents of the car being scattered across both lanes. The Driver Is Finally Carried To Safety The driver is a female, and you can hear her crying as officers approach. The driver was then transported to hospital, it was reported, before being discharged. They now face a long list of charges. Luckily, despite the highway being relatively busy, no one else was hurt and the cops quickly closed the two lanes. If anyone wants to know how driving too fast can go wrong, very quickly, this short video from Arkansas State Police is a vivid reminder. Not long agio, a Porsche 911 GT3 RS also got airborne in Malibu, California, tumbling down a hill before coming to a stop outside a house under construction.
