How about supercharged 5.0-liter Ford V-8s and manual transmissions? Those sound nice to you? Apparently they sound nice to the folks over at AC Cars, the small automaker over the pond that refers to itself as "Britain's oldest active vehicle manufacturer," which is exactly why they came up with the AC Cobra GT Coupe.AC Cars (AC Cars)While the Cobras back in Ken Miles's day generally came with a 4.7-liter V-8, the new AC Cobra GT Coupe comes with a brace of 5.0s, both supplied by Ford. The standard engine is naturally aspirated and produces a healthy 465 horsepower, but if that doesn't sound exciting enough, AC's got you covered. That's because the automaker is also offering a supercharged version of the 5.0, which ups the ante to 720 horsepower and increases the top speed from 170 mph to a whopping 198. Either engine can be ordered with a six-speed manual transmission or a 10-speed automatic box.AdvertisementAdvertisementAccording to Top Gear, the new Cobra GT Coupe draws its inspiration from the Le Mans–racing AC A98 racer from 1964. AC Cars reportedly told the outlet that the Cobra GT Coupe isn't some "stripped-out track car," instead positing that the fixed-roof model is more of a grand tourer. The interior is a mix of throwback and modern luxury. It comes with analog bits and electric bobs, such as powered windows and a screen that supports phone mirroring. The cabin itself incorporates bare metal, leather, suede, and carbon fiber in equal amounts.AC Cars (AC Cars)The Cobra GT Coupe doesn't come cheap, though it's not out of line with models that follow a similar philosophy. The naturally aspirated version starts at $315,105, with the price rising to around $345,000 (based on current exchange rates) for the supercharged example. Production will likely be extremely limited, though the company hasn't given an exact figure.➡️ Skip the lot.
