Corvette Reported Stolen in 2020 Found in RiverChevroletLosing an average car to thieves is bad enough. Losing a 460-horsepower Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport is considerably worse. Finding out nearly six years later that it's been sitting at the bottom of a Georgia river adds one final insult to the injury. Yet according to a recent social media post, that's exactly what happened to one unfortunate 'Vette owner.Jeremy Sides is president of Rapid Compassion Collective, a nonprofit organization that conducts underwater searches for missing people and vehicles, including those connected to decades-old cold cases. One of the group's recent Instagram posts caught our attention: it showed a muck-covered C7-gen Corvette Grand Sport being pulled from the water with the caption: "Look what we just pulled out of the river!"(You can also see a video of the recovery on the 'Jiggin With Jordan' YouTube channel by clicking here, if you prefer.)No other information was provided in the post. However, the car seems remarkably well-preserved, as even the sticker on the windshield with an Instagram handle is clearly visible. And that was all that was needed for netizens to play amateur Sherlock Holmes; another Instagram post from December 11, 2020, was soon found that appears to show this same Corvette, which had been reported stolen at that time. The Instagram banner was a match, as was the distinctive "two-face" black-and-blue color scheme of the Grand Sport. The good news is the car has been recovered. The bads news is that spending time—days, weeks, months, or even all six years—submerged in water didn't do the LT1 engine, the transmission, electronics, interior, or other mechanical components any favors. The car is likely a total loss, despite its fiberglass body looking surprisingly good.So far, there's been no public explanation for how the stolen Grand Sport ended up at the bottom of the river, and the people responsible for the alleged theft have not been identified. And strangely enough, the C7 wasn't the only 'Vette found underwater that Sides seems to have been a party to finding in; a few months earlier, he showed off a C5 Corvette that was also found beneath the waves ... this one with a catfish in the trunk. If You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
