The three-row electric SUV opened pre-sales on April 24 and accumulated more than 100,000 orders by May 7, making it one of BYD’s most anticipated launches of 2026. The model is currently offered in three pre-sale variants priced between 250,000 yuan (36,950 USD) and 320,000 yuan (47,296 USD). Large SUV adopts BYD’s latest design language The Great Tang SUV features a full-width lighting signature at the front and rear, illuminated BYD badging, and vertically arranged headlamps integrated into the front fascia. A contrasting roof design houses a lidar sensor mounted on the roof. Measuring 5,263 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,790 mm tall, with a 3,130 mm wheelbase, the SUV is positioned above the current Tang family models. Semi-hidden door handles and a long wheelbase emphasise its flagship positioning. BYD says the vehicle will be equipped with the God’s Eye 5.0 advanced driver assistance system, supporting assisted driving functions on urban roads and highways. Seven-seat interior targets family buyers Inside, the cabin adopts a 2+2+3 seven-seat layout. The dashboard combines wood-grain trim, a digital instrument cluster, a large floating central touchscreen, and a head-up display. The centre console integrates wireless charging pads and physical shortcut controls. Rear passengers receive an entertainment screen, while a built-in refrigerator is also available. Up to 950 km CLTC range The entry-level 800 km rear-wheel-drive version uses a 105.79 kWh battery pack and produces 300 kW. A long-range rear-wheel-drive variant increases output to 370 kW and uses a 130.15 kWh battery pack, delivering a claimed CLTC range of 950 km. The flagship all-wheel-drive version combines the same 130.15 kWh battery with a dual-motor powertrain producing 585 kW. BYD claims a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds. The SUV also integrates BYD Flash Charging technology, DiSus-A intelligent air suspension, dual-chamber air springs, and road-preview capability. These systems continuously adjust ride height and damping based on road conditions detected ahead of the vehicle. Launch follows unusually strong pre-sale demand The June 17 launch comes after BYD confirmed that Great Tang pre-sale orders exceeded 100,000 units less than two weeks after reservations opened. We previously reported that the launch schedule was pushed back from its original timeline due to demand placing pressure on Blade Battery 2.0’s supply capacity. The new model arrives as BYD’s existing Tang lineup continues to sell in China. Domestic sales of the Tang reached 1,829 units in April, while the Tang L recorded 791 units during the same month, according to China EV DataTracker. The Great Tang will become the largest and longest-range member of the Tang family when deliveries begin. The interior features a 2+2+3 seating layout with a rear entertainment display.
