Ever since Volkswagen threatened to rename itself Voltswagen and committed to the bit rather than coming clean, automotive April Fools' Day pranks have been... weak. Maybe the world got tired of the pranks during COVID, maybe PR folk stopped trying hard enough, or maybe no one could top CarBuzz's Dodge SRT Ghoul prank that nearly broke the internet for three years running.Whatever the case, every year, automakers, tuners, and everyone in between tries their hand at funny (or simply lame) posts and press releases hoping to elicit a few laughs and maybe even a few believers. We've covered some hits in the past, but this year, we've collected all the best and worst we came across in one place for you to look over them all and decide whether any were that great or not. Let us know in the comments below which, if any of these, were any good.HRE Performance Wheels Lego Launching A Real Car Company Maybe this one will only appeal to the Lego nerds, but the plastic brick company claimed yesterday it was launching 'LEGO Auto,' with a video teaser of what looks like a semi-realistic car, not one made of millions of bricks. Sure, it had Lego signature traits, like pedals that look like giant Lego bricks, and a "step on it" floor mat that hurts just thinking about it, but this was a real car. Or at least not a Lego one as we know it. We've seen everyone from Google and Apple to Sony and Xiaomi launch car brands, so why not Lego?Of course, it's a joke, but Lego at least has some genuine automotive claim to fame. Did you know that Lego is the world's single biggest manufacturer of car tires? Store that one in your memory banks for the next time you want to one up someone in a bar quiz. SSC Tuatara's Flamethrower Exhaust With Carbon Fiber Marshmallow Skewers SSC North AmericaThe SSC Tuatara is no stranger to being roasted - especially after its botched top speed record several years back made it an automotive laughingstock. But the Tuatara is a proven performer, and maybe even the fastest road-legal production car to actually verify its capabilities. And production is picking up steam, too. So, in a light-hearted, and definitely AI-assisted post for 1 April, company founder Jerod Shelby showed off a new exhaust system for the Tuatara Striker that spits flames and toasts marshmallows on bespoke carbon fiber skewers that guarantee "the perfect roast everytime [sic]." HRE's Thrust-Generating Wheel-Mounted Aero American aftermarket wheel manufacturer HRE goes all-in every year. Previous years' hits included coilover wheel spokes and wheels with integrated turbos, replete with stunning visuals, but this year, they upped the ante.Dubbed 'AeroThrust ®' HRE's new prototype joke wheels are allegedly wheel-mounted aero devices that generate their own thrust - up to 4,012.026 horsepower worth of it (that's April 1, 2026). It utilizes "IKYK" technology, makes so much power that it uses thrust rather than wheel torque to propel the car, and was even bolted onto a Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut because of its top speed potential.HRE Wheels didn't just drop one post about these either, but three detailed posts with close-up shots of the tech on and off the Jesko Absolut, and even promised a free case of KitKat chocolates to the first 12 buyers. It was very clearly a joke, but we appreicate them going all-in on the bit like this. Bravo! A Widebody Aston Martin Vanuqish Restomod... That's No Joke Callum DesignRemember Ian Callum? He's the guy who designed some of the most beautiful Jaguars and Aston Martins, well, ever, who had an entire lineup of new Jags ready to go before they got canned in one go, and who now runs his own design consultancy. Well, his outfit teased a widebody Vanquish restomod for April Fools' that looks more Liberty Walk than classic British sports car. And we're not hating it...Right from the first post, it was claimed as limited production with 0 examples to be built, touting it as "the rarest commission we've ever not built."And then, today, Callum Design dropped the bomb that while it isn't in production yet, if enough interest is shown, they'd be willing to do it to celebrate the Vanquish's 25th anniversary. That's almost as cool as BMW actually going racing in an M3 Touring because the world got mad it wasn't real. Brabus 8x8 Crawler - Making Your AMG 6x6 Look Like A Toy The Brabus 900 Crawler is already pretty wild. It may look like a G-Class, but it's really a custom off-road monster that makes the AMG G63 look cute. Well, Brabus briefly touted an 8-wheel version that made the AMG G63 6x6 look like a subcompact hatchback, claiming a steel tube frame, exposed carbon fiber bodywork, and drive going out to eight wheels. Hell yeah! Of course, it's not legit, but if anyone's crazy enough to build it, you can bet it's Brabus. A V12-Powered Toyota GR... Bus? Toyota's on a mission to Gazoo Racing all the things, with GR Sport trims for almost every model, and a standalone GR GT supercar on the way. The brand once known for reliability and boredom in equal measure is now a champion for enthusiasts cars the world over. So why not add one more GR model to the list? Like, a V12-powered GR Coaster? If that sounds interesting, it's not.The Coaster is an actual bus, and while the standard engine is a diesel inline-six, the V12 - supposedly the same one as found in the Toyota Century - is not in the cards at all.Heck, the post on Facebook even touted the website for the new GR model as "toyota.com.ph/april-fools," giving away the game before anyone even had time to believe it. BMW Adding Functional Indicators To Neue Klasse Cars In a self-deprecating move mocking the cliche that BMW drivers don't know how to use turn signals, BMW announced it was unlocking the turn signal function, showcasing the tech on a Neue Klasse BMW iX3. The posts on its social media claimed the new feature was the result of years of research and urged that drivers should "use them with caution."Another Mini Pickup Truck Concept It feels like Mini has shown of several pickup truck concepts in the last 15 years, and not all of them were April Fools' pranks. But in Australia, which is the unofficial home of the ute, Mini's local social media team decided to reveal another. Dubbed the Bushman, it's a spartan single-cab work truck based on the Mini Hardtop, replete with a bash bar, a rubber-lined bed, and a snorkel. It's equal parts angry and cute, and got loads of support in the comments. An Off-Road Mazda Miata SUV A Mazda Miata Dakar is a cool idea - something that even Mazda engineers love - but a real MX-5 Miata SUV? Well, it's not happening, but that didn't stop the MX-5 Owners Club in the UK from clowning the world on 1 April with a camo-clad concept they called the MX-5 CrossRoad.Citing an estimated 5,500-pound weight (more than double what the next Miata will weigh) and a dedicated 'lightweight mode' to make it feel like earlier MX-5s, there was enough tongue-in-cheek commentary to make it clear this was a joke. Still, there's something weirdly appealing about this clearly made-up concept. Gunther Werks' Fast Food Carbon Fiber Rear Wing Tray We've all seen the memes about big rear wings on ratty old Hondas being for fast food bags at car meets and we know modified Porsche owners love standing next to their cars more than driving them (I'm joking, relax!), so Gunther Werks unleashed a new carbon fiber rear wing design for its Porsche builds with built-in indents for your nuggets, juice boxes, cheese, and champagne glasses. According to the outfit, the latest active carbon fiber wing is "engineered not only for aerodynamic efficiency, but also for everyday convenience."Did we miss anything noteworthy? Or were any of these worth a real giggle? Let us know what you thought of this year's April Fools' jokes in the comments below.
