Tomorrow is a big day for Hyundai, or so a recent teaser says. The Korean automaker will be revealing a new vehicle at the New York International Auto Show, and the company made it very clear that what it's showing is a serious reveal. The reason it emphasized this is that tomorrow is April 1, April Fools' Day. Despite trying to set up a serious tone for the reveal tomorrow, the company seems to want its cake and to eat it, too, since it put out a joke teaser today. This Maybe Isn't The Best Time, Hyundai Hyundai shared its joke teaser on its South Korean Facebook account, and you can see the post above. It specifically highlights the company's big reveal day, and it certainly shows a "big" vehicle in its mischievous teaser image. It's a stretch-limo version of the Hyundai Inster (or Casper Electric in the Korean market) that's barely concealed in shadow. We'll admit the idea of a giant version of one of Hyundai's smallest cars is fun, and we can appreciate some jabs at the whole idea of teasers. Automakers do tend to overuse them, and some of them hardly hide anything at all.Still, we can't help but feel that this joke juice isn't worth the squeeze. Sure, it's cute, but do you really want to sow even the smallest doubt that maybe you're not doing anything worthwhile on the day of the reveal? It's also just on the South Korean Hyundai account, but that doesn't mean those posts can't be found around the world. Plus, this reveal is, in Hyundai's own words, a global debut. It just seems like the timing isn't ideal.Hyundai Hyundai Is Going To Reveal... Something Jokes aside, Hyundai is really, genuinely, actually going to show something new. The company has its press conference at 9:55 am at the New York show, and that's been on the schedule for some time now. That's also the time that the live stream will start so that people not at the press preview can see the reveal at the same time. These aren't things that you do if you're just goofing around. As for what the reveal will be, well, we're betting on it being the first look at Hyundai's upcoming midsize pickup truck. The teaser involves a large rock, a desolate landscape, and wording that talks up the size and seriousness of the reveal, all things that can be associated with trucks. That's not all, though. The company has made it clear in the past that it's working on one to release in the next couple of years, and it will be available in the U.S., as well as other markets. That makes an American show a logical location for a reveal. Assuming it's the truck, it will probably just be in concept form for now, but the styling will probably be similar to the production model.Gabrielle Schmauderer/CarBuzz/ValnetOur backup guess is that it could be a production version of the Crater concept. That concept was just shown at the L.A. Auto Show last year, and it was a blocky, off-road-oriented SUV. Frankly, it fits the aesthetic and terminology used in Hyundai's teaser pretty well, too. However, between the concept having been shown just a few months ago, and another SUV being less of a major deal for the brand than a truck, we're still leaning toward the pickup possibility. Whatever it is, we'll know soon enough.
