Bentley's upcoming smaller SUV has been spotted testing once again. It is still wearing the brightly patterned camouflage we've seen it in before, but this time it's going much more quickly. The CarBuzz spy photographers have snapped the new electric SUV, which could be called the Barnato, at the Nürburgring. Let's take a closer look. From Hidden As A Porsche To Production-Ready CarBuzz/Valnet We've tracked the new Bentley SUV throughout its development. In the early days, it was a Cayenne body hiding the Bentley underpinnings. Then we saw early pre-production prototypes with goofy lights and now, we have something that looks just about production ready. And we'll keep tracking it right up until the official unveiling, which we expect to happen later this year. The new, smaller Bentley SUV is a big deal, not just because it's a completely new model line, but because it is Bentley's first electric vehicle. The British automaker has described the new model as an "urban SUV," which is because of its sub-200-inch length, as well as less of a priority being put on the off-road capability of an SUV.That length is important, as it will be just under five meters. That's the length generally seen as being the upper limit for driving and parking comfortably in European city centers.CarBuzz/Valnet Other brands, including Bentley's corporate sibling, Porsche, have backed down from their electric-vehicle plans. While Bentley has pushed back its timeline to convert its entire fleet until at least 2035, it is still going all-in on this model. We've heard no rumors of a gas model, which Porsche is quickly bringing back for the Cayenne and Macan. This test vehicle is showing off its production-ready headlamps. The design is a familiar one for Bentley, and it should fit right in with the rest of the line. We can tell that the grille will be closed-in, which is normal for an EV, but not what Bentley will do to give that part of its face the same family resemblance. More Of The Cabin Is Visible CarBuzz/Valnet The latest photos also show small parts of the interior. We can see the solid-looking switches for door locks and door opening, which are normally made from solid metal in a Bentley instead of the plastic you'll find on lesser cars.Look closely, and you can also see small portions of the dash. There are coverings disguising much of the shape, but the thick steering wheel is unmistakable, along with more brightwork trim lurking within. The Bentley is expected to ride on the same PPE platform as the Porsche Macan and Cayenne electrics. Platform sharing across the Volkswagen Group brands is not unusual, and the current Bentley Bentayga uses the same architecture as the gas Cayenne. One sign of those Porsche roots is visible at the back. This is clearly an EV, but it also has two filler doors. There is one filler door – really a charge door – on each rear fender. This is a feature we've seen on Porsche EVs before, where one side offers DC fast charging while both sides can accept AC home charging for convenience and flexibility. The Cayenne EV offers up to 1,139 horsepower or a maximum range of around 370 miles on the WLTP cycle, depending on the model. It can charge from 10-80% in under 16 minutes, and we expect the Bentley to offer similar numbers.Though the timeline has bounced around since it was first announced, we believe that the new Bentley EV will be revealed later this year. That could put it on sale this year or in early 2027.Bentley EV spy photo (6)-1
