Porsche is creating a stockpile inventory of the gas Macan. Production of the ICE-powered SUV will end this summer. A successor is expected to join the Macan EV in 2028. While the fully electric Macan has been on sale since 2024, the ICE-powered veteran remains a vital breadwinner for Porsche. Production of the SUV is scheduled to end in the summer of 2026, but the automaker is building a buffer of stock to satisfy demand until a gasoline-burning successor arrives later in the decade. The math behind the decision is hard to argue with. In Q1 2026, the original Macan posted 10,130 U.S. sales against 8,079 for the all-electric Macan that launched in 2024 on the PPE platform shared with the Audi Q6 e-tron. The gas model’s bones date back to 2013, with facelifts in 2019 and 2021 doing the heavy lifting to keep it relevant, yet it’s still outselling its high-tech replacement. The SUV’s inability to meet new cybersecurity regulations effectively pushed it out of the European Union in spring 2024, and re-engineering a decade-old architecture to clear that bar was never going to pencil out. Porsche According to German magazine AMS, Macan production at the Leipzig factory in Germany continues at full capacity rather than the usual built-to-order manufacturing process. In other words, Porsche is building a stockpile inventory for regions like North America, potentially extending the availability of the gasoline model well into 2027. New buyers won’t be able to build one from scratch, but the warehouse of leftover inventory should be deep enough to keep showrooms stocked while Porsche works on what comes next. While the initial plan was for the Macan EV to outright replace the ICE-powered model, the market conditions eventually forced Porsche to rethink its electrification strategy. A new SUV is currently under development, set to be offered alongside its electric counterpart. The model will reportedly utilize the Audi Q5’s Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture, offering gasoline and hybrid powertrain options. However, this is not expected to arrive before 2028, which explains why Porsche is anxious about bridging the gap with the current generation. Porsche Macan EV
