The "LS6" V8 engine makes 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque, more than enough to put a smile on your face even in the absence of one of the best sounds in sports cars today. Of course, you're never without the sound of the V8, and even at its most hushed, the LS6 sounds incredible. Thanks to a bump in power, it is also capable of taking the base model (and only the base model) Stingray to a whopping 200 mph. That means it doesn't feel precious, which is actually a huge upside. I wouldn't feel bad parking the Corvette next to a Nissan Sentra. The roof comes off, yeah, but it also just fits in the trunk. The ride is comfortable, and the seats are too. Supposing you don't mind the fuel bill, you can just drive the Corvette like a car. To me, this is the hallmark of a good car, which makes the Corvette a reasonable thing to own for a lot of people.The Corvette's Driver-Focused Cockpit Is One Of My FavoritesChase BierenkovenSure, you can't see a damn thing out the back, but the Corvette's cockpit is still one of the best in the business from an ergonomics point of view. Chevy got rid of the climate controls spine that used to divide the cockpit, putting them more within your line of sight by relocating them to the dash, which is angled sharply towards the driver. Everything, from the tightly focused trio of screens to the up-close controls, to the low-slung bucket seats, delivers that cockpit feel you want in a sports car. I struggle to think of something more purposeful at the Stingray's base price.The Grand Sport Is Still The Best Version Of Any CorvetteChase BierenkovenThe best Corvette is still the best Corvette. Effectively a Z06 with the base Stingray's LS6 under the hood, the Grand Sport combined phenomenal handling with a naturally-aspirated experience you can't find in many more places. The Grand Sport rides great on the road and track thanks to its standard magnetorheological adaptive dampers and sticks to the road with its wider 345-section rear tires lifted off the Z06, too.
