Jeep Future Plans: A New Scrambler SRTStellantis (Stellantis)Jeep will soon have a new halo: the Scrambler SRT is a go, and will join the lineup as part of the five-year plan for Jeep, outlined during Stellantis Investor Day in Auburn Hills.The Scrambler is a halo model for the already iconic Wrangler that will continue to be updated. Few details have been provided, but we know it will have independent front and rear suspension. It was weirdly described as a mashup of a trophy truck, Wrangler, and minivan. Stellantis head of design Ralph Gilles calls it a love letter to the enthusiast community.Over the next five years, Stellantis will continue to keep the Wrangler lineup fresh with the buzz versions of the rugged SUV that continues with the two-door and larger Unlimited. Grilles get tweaked; materials change like the addition of denim.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe Gladiator truck gets a new look, finally adopting some of the ideas Jeep has teased us with over the years with its Easter Moab concepts but never put into production. The truck gets the 392 for the first time. The off-road suspension will be tweaked and the truck can wear 35-inch tires.Stellantis (Stellantis)Also launching this year is the all-new Jeep Recon, a rugged SUV positioned below the Wrangler. The Recon will hit the market as an electric vehicle, as originally planned, and part of what separated it from the Wrangler. But Jeep now says it will offer the Recon with an internal combustion engine next year and some subtle design differences.On the lifestyle side of Jeep, there is a next-generation Compass, refreshed with global design. We got a brief look at a Trailhawk preproduction model as the team works to make the Compass more capable and look the part. It is also positioned as an affordable vehicle, one of seven models coming that will be priced below $40,000.The Cherokee is new this year, offered as a hybrid.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe Grand Cherokee and the stretched Grand Cherokee L are slated for a refresh. The off-road Trailhawk version will be more distinctive, including prominent tow hooks and signature illuminated seven-slot grille. The three-row has a nicer hind end. Gilles said he screwed up the first time around. “It wasn’t so good,” he says, but it has been fixed. The whole vehicle has been modernized with better finishes, leather interior, and new features like a dual phone charger.Also getting spruced up is the premium Grand Wagoneer.
