2027 Toyota Prius Mostly the Same, Tiny Price HikeNATHAN LEACH-PROFFERThe 2027 model Toyota Prius does not even rise to the level of mid-cycle facelift. The current fifth-generation Toyota Prius was fully redesigned and launched as an all-new vehicle way back in the 2023 model year. It got a dramatic redesign featuring a much sleeker profile, a sportier stance, and significantly improved performance. With that new look, the Prius was almost cool. Maybe even fully cool. But Toyota also launched a Camry Hybrid, and people started buying that instead. It had more room and also benefitted from a hybrid drive. As a result, maybe, Prius sales dropped 41 percent. Toyota moved just 9,737 of them in the first three months of this year, down from 16,653 during the same period in 2025.That could be why the 2027 model doesn't get the traditional new front and rear clips, headlights and taillights that usually come with a mid-cycle facelift.AdvertisementAdvertisementWhat it does get is one new color, a black called "Inked," dual-zone HVAC for the driver and front passenger, and a reasonable $205 price increase to $30,050 including destination for the base model. Top of the line Limited is $36,860.This is not the new Inked color.ToyotaToyota points out that the 2027 Prius still comes with fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5) that pairs a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder DOHC engine with two "responsive" electric motors. Toyota says the Prius delivers "an engaging driving experience alongside remarkable efficiency:"Front-Wheel Drive (FWD): 194 net-combined horsepower, an estimated 0-60 mph time of 7.2 seconds, and an EPA-estimated 55 mpg combined rating in the LE grade. (The '26 model peaked at 57 mpg.)All-Wheel Drive (AWD): 196 net-combined horsepower, an estimated 0-60 mph time of 7.0 seconds, and an EPA-estimated 53 mpg combined rating in the LE AWD grade. The Electronic On-Demand is actually FWD until the AWD engages a rear motor when slip is detected. The 2027 Prius will be available this summer.
