The car's manual says if the windshield is damaged, it "may not operate properly, possibly leading to an accident resulting in death or serious injury." The manual says owners must "replace the windshield if it is damaged or cracked. According to them, the components and calibration of the drive-assistance element of the windshield would cost $360, or 25.4 percent of the average repair estimate of $1,439.78. The AAA report said that calibration should not be ignored and stated that "Sensors that are out of alignment generate faulty information that will cause ADAS to operate improperly or not at all—creating a safety hazard."AdvertisementAdvertisementCarolyn actually found three places she could get the glass replaced. The $850 price was for an aftermarket replacement. She said $1,200 was quoted for Safelite fitting Toyota glass, and that it was $1,700 for Toyota itself to do the work. The cheaper glass came with a manufacturer warning. "The black ceramic border may not allow the camera to see through it properly," said Toyota.
