A woman is getting backlash after saying she bought a high-mileage 2015 Nissan Altima, then revealing what she pays for it each month. TikTok creator @soufsidepinky, who is based in Atlanta, says she bought the car from Cars R Us, a dealership in Stone Mountain, Georgia. “Got scammed out of a car,” she wrote in the video’s text overlay. “Cars R Us on Memorial Drive.” Her video has garnered over 68,200 views and more than 1,500 comments. What Went Wrong With The Altima? Driving in her new Altima, she says she’s extremely frustrated with the situation. “I am like 38 hot,” she says. She explains that the dealership sold her a 2015 Nissan Altima with 217,000 miles on it. After putting down a $1,000 payment, she reveals how much she’s paying for it. “[I] put $1,000 down on the car… car note at $150 a week,” she says. That comes out to roughly $600 per month. Tell us what you think! View Comments Then she lists all the problems she claims she learned about after purchasing the vehicle. “This [expletive] ain’t got no headlights,” she says. “It needed a wheel alignment, it needs a control arm… It got bad brake fluid.” She says she took the vehicle to the dealership after finding the issues, but they dismissed her. “My car was $8,000,” she says. “Why is the car $8,000 with 217,000 miles?” She says she initially agreed with the price because she doesn’t have good credit and urgently needed a car to get around. However, she doesn’t appreciate being ignored by the dealership. “I'm just very upset because I can't drive the car at night,” she says. “I can only drive the car at certain times of the day.” She believes the dealership put her at risk and took advantage of her. “You just sold me a car that’s legally unsafe to drive,” she says. “It doesn’t have any headlights, and I’m paying a $600 car note every month.” She added in the caption, “Just a mom of 4 trying to have what I need for my babies, gave me the run around for two weeks all to tell me the car was undrivable.” A Stunning Price And Payment Schedule In the comment section, viewers were shocked by her monthly payment and the total price of the vehicle. “Whoa whoa whoa,” one user exclaimed. “2015 car, 216k miles, $600 payment a month??” Others said that the payment could have gone toward something much newer. “U could’ve got a brand new car for $600 a month,” another wrote. “U could’ve got a decent car on Facebook market for 8,000…with 70k miles,” a third added. TikTok creator @Yocannon_, who often reposts car-related videos, stitched @soufsideofpinky’s video and commented on the purchase. “So I know everybody’s financial situation is different,” he begins, listing all the things that went wrong with the deal. “And you had the nerve to have a child in the back of that thing?” he adds. He also questions when she chose to inspect the car. “You supposed to get it checked out before you purchase the car,” he says. He says the mileage alone should have raised concerns. “You had nobody that was like, maybe you shouldn't get that?” While acknowledging that she urgently needed transportation, he says she could’ve avoided the situation. “I know that you need a car,” he says. “But come on… If you don’t know what you're doing, bring somebody with you who can help you so you won’t be got by these scammers.” Was This Used Nissan A Bad Deal? A $8,000 price tag is on the high end for a car with that kind of mileage. Based on listings and estimates from Edmunds, for example, a 2015 Nissan Altima with over 200,000 miles would fall closer to the $5,000 to $6,000 range. Unfortunately, even if the vehicle is in terrible condition and worth far less than she paid, Georgia’s lemon law does not cover used vehicles. If the dealership lied to her about the condition of the vehicle, she may be able to seek redress. But that’s far from a guarantee. Cars R Us currently has a 4.2 out of 5-star rating on Google, with many of the 200 people who’ve reviewed it praising its professionalism, how fast the buying process is, and the fact that they don’t check credit. But not all feedback is positive. Some complained about repossession after being just one day late on payments, contract errors, and ongoing issues with vehicle condition. In a follow-up TikTok, @soufsidepinky says that Cars R Us eventually took the car back and refunded her down payment, though complains that she wasn’t reimbursed for a payment she made or the repairs she paid for. In another post, she says she got rid of the Altima and bought a 2017 Hyundai Elantra with 30,000 miles from a different dealership. “RIP to the car that wasn’t for me,” she writes of the Altima.
