Officially debuted today, the new Aston Martin Valen is one of the stars of Monterey Car Week. Based on the Vanquish, named Robb Report's 2026 Car of the Year, the Valen is lighter, faster, and a whole lot angrier. Its name is derived from the Latin word for "strong"—and the marque claims it's the world's most powerful front-engined production car, with 838 hp from its 5.2-liter twin-turbo V-12. Before the Valen was locked inside a crate bound for California, we had a secret preview at Aston Martin's design studio in Warwickshire, England. We also talked to the team, who have spent three years bringing this hardcore GT to life. His team's previous projects were the Valour and track-focused Valiant, but Long says the Valen is "right on the edge of what an Aston Martin can be." Only 150 examples will be built, each priced at around $1.7 million before taxes. The first deliveries are expected in early 2027.Tucked in a corner of the studio, a design mood board is headed by words that make up the Valen's manifesto of sorts: "Ruthless. Ominous. Experimental. Alter Ego. Antihero." Design director Marek Reichmann talks of "extreme emotions" and an "attacking stance." If the Vanquish is a sharp-suited secret agent (yes, you know the one), this car plays his dark and villainous nemesis. Equally, whereas the styling of the Valour and Valiant was inspired by the past—notably the brutish 1977 V8 Vantage—this Aston Martin looks far more futuristic. The Valen's center console is noticeably slimmer than that found in the Vanquish, and makes plentiful use of a 3-D-printed metal that combines the lightness of aluminum with the strength of titanium.The Valen's aluminum structure is bodied in carbon fiber, which you can order with an exposed or tinted finish. The Monterey show car uses a new satin blend of Aston Martin's Andromeda Red paint, combining elements of scarlet, burgundy, copper, and gold to give a vibrant, color-shifting effect. It rides on 21-inch magnesium wheels and soft-compound Pirelli P-Zero R tires—both developed specifically for this car. New-generation Cyber Tire technology feeds data to the onboard dynamic systems, enhancing both performance and safety. AdvertisementAdvertisementEven beneath the stark, soulless glare of studio lights, the Valen is instantly arresting. On Northern California's Highway 1 or Ocean View Boulevard, it should look spectacular. An angular nose is framed by slim LED headlamps recessed below a jutting "eyebrow." This extends into the sides of the car, where Aston Martin's traditional side strakes are elongated into vents that extract air from the front wheel arches. New side quarter windows give the car a different profile to a Vanquish, while the "sawtooth" vortex generators—cut into the sills—are inspired by the Valhalla supercar.The Valen bridges the gap between the Valhalla and Vanquish with a unique, slightly subversive twist on what an Aston Martin can be.The Valen's most dramatic angle, however, is the one you see when it has just overtaken you. You first spot the absence of a rear window (a reversing camera does the job instead), then the full-width light bar, which doubles as a downforce-generating Gurney flap. Those special Pirellis are clearly visible through slash-cut carbon-fiber fins, while the exhaust gases exit through two high-mounted pipes, plus a further pair—only opened at high throttle loads—within the upswept rear diffuser. "They give a very high perceived increase in sound, up by 50 percent versus the Vanquish," notes Long. "The noise on the over-run is thunderous."The big-chested V-12 is squeezed right up against the bulkhead, giving the model a front-to-rear weight distribution of 53:47. Drive goes to the rear wheels via a carbon-fiber prop shaft and electronic limited-slip differential. The eight-speed ZF automatic transmission remains, but now incorporates "race-proven shift strategies" from Aston Martin's Vantage GT4 program. The driver can also switch between Sport, Sport+, and Track settings to suit their mood. (The Vanquish's wafty GT mode has been banished.) Interestingly, Track mode is purported to offer a calmer, more progressive throttle response for greater precision at the limit.An angular nose is framed by slim LED headlamps recessed below a jutting "eyebrow."With a curb weight up to 243 pounds lighter than a stock Vanquish (Aston Martin hasn't quoted an official figure yet, but reckon on about 3,675 pounds with fluids), the Valen will launch from zero to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds. Top speed is limited to 214 mph. It should also feel monstrous in the midrange, with 738 ft lbs of torque from only 2,500 rpm. AdvertisementAdvertisementYou can expect more drama in the corners, too. Well-proven Bilstein DTX semi-active dampers are combined with new springs and additional helper springs for tighter body control. There's also a solid-mounted rear subframe, the steering has been retuned—"allowing Valen to behave like a shorter and lighter car"—and the carbon-ceramic brakes gain a booster for more consistent pedal response. This isn't a hypercar to smash lap records around the Nürburgring, but nor will it be embarrassed by a Porsche 911 GT3 at a track day. "We have forgone some ride comfort for extra agility," Long notes.Inside, the Valen stays truer to its GT roots. Like a Vanquish, there is only space for two occupants, but you'll find useful luggage pods behind the seats, and there's a trunk with 6 cubic feet of storage. "Customers want to go touring in these cars," says Long. No doubt a set of custom leather luggage will be on the options list, too.Aston Martin claims the Valen will launch from zero to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds and reach a limited top speed of 214 mph.The marque's Interior design chief, Adam McKerron, says the team aimed to "celebrate negative space" with a simpler, more modern environment than the cockpit of the Vanquish. The Valen's center console is noticeably slimmer and makes plentiful use of a 3-D-printed metal called Scalmalloy. Said to combine the lightness of aluminum with the strength of titanium, it comes from the aerospace industry and has an intricate structure that looks both technical and sculptural. Moving the heating and air-con controls to the touchscreen in order to declutter the cabin seems like a backwards step, however.As you'd expect, there is also near-limitless scope for personalization, ensuring no two examples of the Valen will be the same. A special offline configurator, available at the factory and Aston Martin stores such as Q New York, allows almost every detail of the car to be modified. You can choose the Valen-specific Sports Plus seats or lightweight carbon buckets in either leather or Alcantara trim, with the driver's chair available in a contrasting color. For those chasing ultimate performance, a lightweight package adds suspension arms and knuckles that are machined from solid aluminum, along with titanium chassis bolts, saving a total of 37 pounds.First deliveries of the Valen are expected in early 2027.According to Long, the mid-engined Valhalla has introduced Aston Martin to a new breed of buyers: younger, more interested in outright performance, and "looking for technical differences, not just a coachbuilt body." The Valen seems tailored to capture some of these customers, bridging the gap between the Valhalla and the Vanquish with a unique, slightly subversive twist on what an Aston Martin can be.
