Add another city to the list. Waymo’s electric robotaxi service has launched in another city, Nashville, Tennessee. People interested in using the robotaxi service can now download the app and try to catch a ride. Waymo is inviting members of the public on a rolling basis, as always, so you may be able to catch rides immediately (if you’re lucky) or you may have to wait a bit. The company provides some more details on the Nashville service: “Our initial 60-square-mile service area covers Music City’s most iconic spots, from the honky tonks of Broadway and the boutiques of 12 South, to the energy of Midtown and the foodie scene in East Nashville. Plus, we are currently testing at Nashville International Airport and intend to serve travelers there in the near future.” Here’s a map: “Waymo is an opportunity for older adults to embrace new technology and new ways of getting around,” said Grace Sutherland Smith, Executive Director, AgeWell Middle Tennessee. “It’s so important as we grow older to stay connected to the community and transportation is a key to that. We also believe the advance booking feature can help lighten the load on family caregivers who may have to take time off work to drive loved ones to appointments. So we’re excited about Waymo coming to Nashville and being an option for the older adults and caregivers we serve.” “Nashville is buzzing with music, tourism, and nightlife, and now Waymo helps connect it all,” added Tekedra Mawakana, co-CEO of Waymo. “As Nashville continues to grow, Waymo is proud to support that momentum by providing a safe, reliable, and magical way for locals and visitors to experience everything the city has to offer.” Waymo has been entering new city after new city. It feels like a weekly routine this year, but I know it’s not quite that regular. However, it did recently launch in In Nashville, Waymo’s vehicles will be available through its own app, but will also be available through Lyft later in the year. “Lyft will also serve as our fleet management partner in Nashville via Flexdrive,” the company writes.
