According to MAN, around 3,300 units have been delivered to date. But this is the first time the model has been manufactured at MAN’s facility in Türkiye. The Ankara facility now complements existing e-bus manufacturing in Starachowice, Poland, where the Lion’s City E has been produced since 2020, and in Olifantsfontein, South Africa, where the company builds electric buses for local markets. According to MAN, the expansion reflects growing demand for the Lion’s City E and supports increased production capacity within its global network.Production in Ankara has been prepared through infrastructure upgrades, process adjustments and workforce training focused on electric drivetrains. The plant is designed for flexible manufacturing, allowing both electric and conventionally powered buses to be produced on the same assembly lines.Production in Ankara has been prepared through infrastructure upgrades, process adjustments and workforce training focused on electric drivetrains. This enables us to respond efficiently to different market requirements.”The Lion’s City E is available in multiple configurations, including 10-metre, 12-metre and 18-metre articulated variants, as well as low-entry versions for intercity applications. MAN also offers the Lion’s Chassis E for bodybuilders in international markets. The company states that this portfolio enables deployment across a wide range of urban and regional transport use cases. The model will not be the only electric bus to roll off the production line in Anakra. MAN stated that additional electric bus models are planned for production in Ankara in the future, including intercity variants and the Lion’s Coach E. Initial deliveries of the electric coach are scheduled for the end of the year.mantruckandbus.com
