Earlier this year, Chevrolet claimed that its Corvette ZR1X could run an eight-second quarter mile. It showed that the new gas-electric Corvette was incredibly quick, which we had already expected based on the massive power figures and all-wheel drive. But can the Corvette ZR1X really do eight-second quarter miles? Can it do it in the hands of real owners, and not GM test drivers? This video shows that it absolutely can. The ZR1X Is Seriously Fast Chevrolet The video comes from YouTube channel DragTimes, and it shows a brand-new Corvette ZR1X owned by the man behind the TX2K drag racing event. This isn't the 2026 TX2K, it's a test and tune event at a drag strip in Dallas to get some runs in the car before the big event. It's a cool day, 52 degrees, but the sun is out and heating up the pavement. It might not be a perfect drag strip day, but it's about as close as you can get thanks to that cool, dense air for the V8's twin turbos to inhale. The Corvette is stock, though a 1,250-horsepower car doesn't exactly need any modifications to be amazing. It's optioned up with the carbon fiber wheels and the carbon fiber aero pack, though the rear wing has been removed, because it generates drag along with downforce. Going straight, it could help as speeds go up. But we sure wouldn't want to venture onto a road course without it. The aero kit up front without the wing at the back knocks the car's balance out of whack. We get a tour of the car in the video, but you can skip ahead to about the four-minute mark for less talk and more rock. The ZR1X lines up and the driver waits for the tree. There is zero wheelspin and not a sound from the tires, and the run is epic. The car crossed the quarter-mile in 8.742 seconds with a trap speed of 159.37 miles per hour. It's not quite as quick as the 8.6-second run from Team Chevy, but we're talking a tenth of a second difference here. The ZR1X is legit. Like Driving A RAV4 To The Mall Chevrolet We're going to say it again – 8.742 seconds at 159.37mph – because if you aren't a drag racer it might not be obvious how fast this is. To get a purpose-built drag car running that quick, you're going to need to spend massive amounts of money and learn how to drive like a pro. Controlling that much power in a race car, even in a straight line, isn't easy. But the ZR1X makes this kind of speed look as simple as taking a Toyota RAV4 for groceries. The in-car Dragy app breaks it down more. It shows zero to 60 mph in 1.94 seconds (1.77 seconds with one-foot roll-out), a 5.68-second 1/8 mile, and 8.76 seconds at 158.73 mph. We see 168 miles per hour on the speedometer when it crosses the line.A different driver hops in for fun and runs an 8.784 almost immediately after the first run. The car isn't even heat soaking and slowing down. Peak acceleration is 1.4g. Then the team starts removing parts. They take off one of the aero devices on the hood, looking to reduce drag a little more. This time, however, the car looks a little more squirrely off the line, but only slightly. The time doesn't get any quicker, because squirrely, though sometimes fun, isn't as fast.So there you have it. The Corvette ZR1X with its 1,064-horsepower 5.5-liter LT7 V8 and another 186 hp from its electric motor is just as quick as GM says it is. And if you can get behind the wheel of the mid-engine monster, you can do it as easy as pie. On a prepped, closed course, obviously. We can't wait to see what it can do with some drag radials.
