A Toyota salesman is finally selling the 2002 Tacoma PreRunner that came into his lot as a trade-in. He reveals why it was constantly being shown and is now on to a new owner. TikTok creator Jeb (@jeb.sells.toyotas) posted his long-awaited video over the weekend. “This vehicle is one that I was wanting to make a video on, and every time I was about to it started getting shown so I didn’t have the ability to,” he says to start the video. Today, however, is different. “But I'm here on my day off because I get to sell it. So perfect time to do it,” he says. He then reveals that it is a two-wheel drive with 136,000 miles on the odometer. “Sweet ride,” he says. “Beautful part about working at a Toyota dealership? We get cool Toyotas.” The 2002 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner According to Edmunds, a used 2002 Tacoma PreRunner (two-door, regular cab, 2WD) will run buyers about $11,900. It has a V-6 engine, a bed length of 74.5 inches, a payload capacity of 1,500 pounds, a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds, and a curb weight of 2,750 pounds. When reviewing the 2002 Tacoma PreRunner, Edmunds’ expert calls it a reliable compact pickup that will appeal to a large swath of truck enthusiasts. The site praises its “flexible and refined drivetrains” and off-roading prowess, but dings it over its high price and optional features. Edmunds says the PreRunner goes for an average of about $12,000 on the used market. “The 2002 Toyota Tacoma is a capable compact pickup with a variety of body styles to suit most buyers,” the site states. “Has a reputation for reliability, but value in question due to high asking prices.” Is The 2002 Tacoma PreRunner The Perfect Model? So, to what can we attribute the PreRunner enthusiasm? A Reddit user posted to r/1stGenTacomas two months ago to celebrate reaching 233,000 miles on their 2002 Tacoma PreRunner V-6. “Still far from 300,000,” the Redditor wrote in the caption. In the thread, commenters shared the mileage on their 1990s and 2000s Tacomas and Tacoma PreRunners, with many bragging that theirs reached over 250,000 miles. Reliability isn’t the only appeal, according to a Reddit user on another thread posted to r/ToyotaTacoma three years ago. “The PreRunner is there for people who understand a truck doesn’t need a big V8 to be a good truck,” the commenter wrote. “It’s a single cab, because they’re buying it for function. They don’t want a massive truck. This is for country folk who rarely leave dirt roads. These buyers just need a truck to get to their blue collar job. It’s near base model for a reason. These buyers don’t want a bunch of features.” The person concluded, “PreRunner buyers want a truck to use as a truck.” Motor1 contacted Jeb via TikTok for comment.
