Learn moreIf you've been holding out (or saving up) to buy a Rivian because of the high MSRP, the R2 launch this year is bound to have you weighing whether to bust open that piggy bank. Granted, the truly affordable base trim is still a few months out. However, even the up-spec Performance and Premium versions lower the brand's barrier to entry by thousands of dollars.iKamper's Rivian collab brings some new features unique to the DLX line and novel for the brand. - Credit: iKamperAnd now there's yet another reason to justify a purchase thanks to iKamper. The brand just announced a pair of rooftop tents in collaboration with Rivian, and they include a range of Rivian-exclusive features not found on the standard Skycamp options.iKamper's upgraded Rivian RTTIt's called the Rivian x iKamper Skycamp 4.0 DLX (more on the size later). As with the brand's other RTTs this year, iKamper says it's an option that benefits from upgrades to both geometry and materials for a more livable, more durable space. The Rivian-specific badging does help tie the theme together. - Credit: iKamperHowever, the real reason to be excited about the DLX designation would be the Rivian-worthy exclusives. In keeping with the automaker's focus on tech and connectivity, iKamper has given the tents junction boxes for plugging in devices, electrical and HVAC pass-throughs, along with integrated, independently dimmable interior and exterior lighting.AdvertisementAdvertisementWhat's more, the Rivian DLX tent also promises improved hardware in the form of its HC Staircase. iKamper claims it as a first for the brand, and it's pretty slick. The design integrates wide, flat steps directly into the ladder for cleaner installation, easier packing and more comfortable access. The collaboration does bring more to the table than co-branding. - Credit: iKamperRounded out by a Rivian-specific design with unique badging and colors, it's made only better by how neatly the various configurations are designed to integrate with Rivian's R1T, R1S and R2. A size fit for the new R2That's because in addition to a two-person Duo floor plan, iKamper and Rivian have also collaborated on a larger Trio option.iKamper's Duo size fits the R1T, while the Trio will only work on the R1S and R2. - Credit: iKamperIt's an especially tempting tent because it's sized to fit both the R2 and the R1S. As with the Skycamp 4.0 Trio, iKamper says it promises room for three yet remains compact enough to mount atop a midsize SUV.AdvertisementAdvertisementSeeing as the R2 is a vehicle that aims to democratize the brand, I'd expect that iKamper's corresponding tent will only serve to up the appeal. After all, while the R1S can accommodate a range of shells, the smaller R2's roofline calls for something sized accordingly.iKamper's new HC Staricase incorporates steps directly into the ladder. - Credit: iKamperAvailability and pricingiKamper's Rivian x iKamper Skycamp 4.0 DLX Duo and Trio start at $4,800 and $5,050, respectively.Rivian x iKamper Skycamp 4.0 DLX Rooftop Tent Starts at $4,800 About the Author: Gray is an associate editor at Gear Patrol, covering cars, motorcycles and anything else with wheels.
