On average, a typical motorcycle depreciates by up to 40 percent within the first three to four years. There are always the unlucky few who lose that much value within the first two years, too. On the other end of the spectrum sit motorcycles that hold their value quite well, losing only around 20 percent in the same three to four years. These bikes retain value thanks to demand, reliability, and the value they offer.Once in a while, there come motorcycles that hold most of their value, and sometimes, even appreciate in value. Ironically, these bikes don’t care at all about reliability or being value for money. These are, in most cases, iconic or rare motorcycles that represent something for the manufacturer. Here are ten such motorcycles that hold the value best in the U.S. market. 2016 Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider S Used Value: $12,890 The 2016 Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider S was only sold for two years before Low Riders became a part of the Softail family. So, it was the last of the Dyna Low Rider S. At the same time, it was sort of a revival of the original 1977 Low Rider, retaining the style and essence of the predecessor along with extra performance. So, it already had a fanbase, and its limited production run meant there were few to go around. It’s this very reason why the Dyna Low Rider S has been in so much demand in the used market. It originally sold for around $17k, but J.D. Power puts its price at around $13k in the used market for a good condition model. And it’s on its way to becoming a collector’s item, with some enthusiasts claiming that it already has. There are some reports online that show that some of the Low Rider S models are already selling for more than their original price. But the Low Rider S isn't the only discontinued Harley commanding premium prices... 2003 Harley-Davidson CVO Softail Deuce Used Value: $22,000 (Excellent Condition) Bring a TrailerThe early 2000s marked a stylistic renaissance for the Harley-Davidson Softail family, with each model dialing things up through eye-catching paint and a healthy dose of chrome. One of those models was the CVO Softail Deuce, a muscle cruiser that was partly inspired by factory choppers. It came with flashy colors and a color-matched frame, a raked-out front end, and a teardrop fuel tank, and it was powered by the Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 95B V-twin engine.Bring a TrailerAs one of the earlier Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) models, the Softail Deuce was also limited-edition, and this rarity has kept its value quite high in the used market. J.D. Power estimates that a good condition model can go for $11k, while excellent condition ones can command as high as $22k. While not a dramatic appreciation, it is well on its way to becoming a collector’s special soon. 2024 Harley-Davidson Hydra-Glide Revival Used Value: $22,000 Harley-DavidsonThe 2024 Harley-Davidson Hydra Glide Revival is a limited-run, special motorcycle for the Motor Company. It was launched to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the original 1949 Hydra-Glide, and it featured 1956-inspired styling, complete with stunning Redline Red / Birch White paint, plenty of chrome, fringed seats, and studded leather saddlebags. Powering it was the modern Milwaukee Eight 114 V-twin engine.Harley-DavidsonIn the used market, the Hydra-Glide Revival checks all the boxes to appreciate in value. Limited to 1,500 units, this bike offers a proper throwback appeal with period-correct paint and design elements. It’s no wonder that this bike has managed to retain its value so well. Its original MSRP was $25k, but, according to J.D. Power, a good-condition model can go for around $22k, with low-mileage models demanding even more. 2004 Honda Valkyrie Rune Used Value: $24,000 (Pristine Condition) HondaThe Valkyrie Rune is the perfect example of a manufacturer caring more about making a statement than the profit margin. Thanks to complete creative freedom, the Rune’s designers made a flat-six powered cruiser with a design unlike any other. Think integrated radiator grill, a trailing bottom-link suspension, and a long, low stance. Even two decades later, the Valkyrie Rune still looks straight out of the future.Rumor has it that every Rune cost Honda over $100k each in production, despite selling for only $25k. Honda probably chalked up that loss of nearly $225 million to marketing expenses. While the Rune may not have appreciated much in value, it maintained its value quite well, going for around $24k at auctions. Thanks to its rarity, it still manages to make headlines whenever one goes up for sale. 2022 KTM RC 8C Used Value: $31,405 KTMKTM collaborated with Kramer Motorcycles to produce the RC 8C, a proper supersport trackbike that was essentially an evolution of the Kramer GP2 prototype that Troy Siahaan tested in 2008. Powering it was the Duke-derived 899cc LC8c parallel-twin, but what made the RC 8C special was its underpinnings. Everything is track-spec, including GRP fairing reinforced with carbon-Kevlar, carbon fiber winglets, WP Apex Pro suspension, full-factory AIM MXS 1.2 Race dashboard, and much more.KTMBack in 2022, if you had to get your hands on one, you had to be super fast, as KTM only produced 100 of these, all of which sold out in minutes. You can still pick one of these up at auctions, but you’ll still have to pay a premium. The RC 8C went for $39k, and currently, it auctions for around $31k, but delivery mileage models demand over $40k at auctions. 2024 Ducati Diavel V4 For Bentley Used Value: Over $45,000 DucatiWhen two legendary manufacturers collaborate, the result is bound to be insanely good. That’s the case with the Ducati Diavel V4 for Bentley. Based on the standard Diavel V4, this special edition Ducati features plenty of design updates that complement the Bentley Batur supercar. These changes include exclusive panels, Sarab Green paint, carbon fiber bits, and other design cues inspired by the Batur.DucatiDucati only made 500 of these, along with 50 special Mulliner editions, all of which were sold out shortly after launch. The regular model goes for over $45k, whereas the rare Mulliner editions can fetch as much as $100k at auctions. 2017 Ducati 1299 Superleggera Used Value: $49,000 DucatiLike the Diavel V4 for Bentley, the 1299 Superleggera is yet another Ducati based on a standard motorcycle, only this time, the focus is on power-to-weight ratio. The 1299 Superleggera, which is Italian for super-light, is a whopping 50 pounds lighter than the regular Panigale. Ducati managed to shave off so many pounds by essentially building the entire bike out of carbon fiber and titanium internals, which gave it among the best power-to-weight ratios ever.As with any special edition Ducati, even this 1299 Superleggera was limited to 500 units worldwide, and only a few of them made it to the States. And it's highly collectible today. It originally went for a hefty price of $90k, and used models today for around $49k, according to Hagerty. Although if you’re lucky, you can score one for much cheaper, too. Extremely low-mileage ones go for $70k. 2018 MV Agusta F4 Claudio Used Value: Over $83,000 MV AgustaThe F4 Claudio is named after Claudio Castiglioni, the legendary designer who designed the original MV Agusta F4 with Massimo Tamburini. These bumped the power up to 212 horsepower with a 14,200 RPM redline.MV AgustaIt’s a stunning motorcycle, too, with two-tone paintwork and a gold pinstripe that follows the fairing profile. MV Agusta only made 100 of these, so finding one today at auction is like finding a unicorn. Originally, it sold for $86k, and it still demands more or less the same price at auctions. A good condition F4 Claudio holds a market value of over $83k, though Bring A Trailer sold one with just 5 miles on the odometer for $109k last year. 2008 Ducati Desmosedici RR Used Value: $116,000 While most motorcycles above have managed to retain their value, the 2008 Ducati Desmosedici RR takes things up a notch. This is a literal MotoGP bike for the streets, pushing the status quo of sports bikes so far up that few production motorcycles have come close to it. From its aerodynamic fairing to forged magnesium wheels, everything on this bike is designed for performance. It’s also one of those rare bikes where the focus on function makes it a sight to behold, too.DucatiSince Ducati only produced 1,500 units of this legendary hand-built race bike for the streets, it has become one of the most expensive and sought-after sports bikes ever made. With an original sticker price of $72k, according to Classic.com, the Desmosedici RR demands around $116k on average. You might still find some cheaper options, but well-kept examples, especially those with the race kit, can go for a lot higher. 2015 Honda RC213V-S Used Value: Over $200,000 HondaLike the Desmosedici RR, the RC213V-S is another Grand Prix bike for the streets. In stock condition, this Honda produced a humble 150 horsepower, but the optional Sports Kit unleashed over 200 horsepower with an ear-bleeding exhaust note. The lucky few who have gotten a chance to ride this report a surreal and terrifying experience that's unmatched even by most modern superbikes.HondaHonda intended to produce 213 units but could only manage 123 before production ended. Thanks to its extreme nature and limited production run, the RC213V-S is in extremely high demand today. So much so that it has become one of themost expensive modern motorcyclesever auctioned. In 2023, an RC213V-S with just 44 miles was auctioned for a whopping $230,050, and experts expect it to go further up in value.Source: Manufacturers, J.D.
