The Yamaha WR450F Already Had Enough Power. So Yamaha Fixed Everything ElseRideApartinfo@rideapart.com (Enrico Punsalang)Tue, September 15, 2026 at 12:52 PM UTCAdd us on Google2027 Yamaha WR450FYamaha looked at its 450cc enduro monster and apparently decided the problem wasn't a lack of violence. There comes a point where adding more power to a dirt bike stops being helpful and starts becoming a creative way to yeet yourself into oblivion. The Yamaha WR450F crossed that threshold a while ago. So for 2027, Yamaha hasn't spent its time bragging about some ridiculous horsepower increase.Instead, one of the headline changes is improved low- to mid-range performance and improved stall resistance. Translation: the engine already had plenty of beans. Yamaha wanted to make those beans easier to manage. The 450cc four-stroke single remains the centerpiece, but Yamaha has revised it with trail riding and enduro competition firmly in mind. Rather than chasing some enormous top-end number, the work focuses on making the power more useful lower in the rev range while reducing the chances of coughing the engine to a stop halfway over a log. On a 450, where traction and throttle control frequently matter more than outright output, that's arguably a much more useful upgrade.2027 Yamaha WR450FYamaha didn't stop at the motor, either. The aluminum bilateral-beam frame uses WR450F-specific engine mounts and is tuned to balance strength with flex, while fully adjustable KYB suspension handles the ugly stuff. Yamaha says the suspension is designed around bump absorption, cornering performance, and rider comfort in technical terrain. That's important because being fast for ten minutes is easy. Staying reasonably functional after several hours of rocks, roots, and bad decisions is the harder assignment.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe braking hardware also gets attention, with compact calipers, aggressive pads, and lightweight discs aimed at providing strong braking while keeping unsprung weight down. The whole bike comes in at a claimed 256 pounds wet, which is impressively lean considering the WR still carries actual enduro equipment including a two-gallon fuel tank, 18-inch rear wheel, lights, radiator fan, skid plate, O-ring chain, kickstand, and spark-arrestor-equipped muffler.More Fun Off RoadBeta Is Expanding Its Enduro Lineup. Yamaha hasn't tried to turn an already potent enduro bike into an even angrier dyno-sheet flex. It's worked on the stuff riders actually interact with once the trail gets nasty: low-rpm response, stall resistance, chassis behavior, suspension, braking, and overall usability. The new WR450F starts at $10,499 before Yamaha's $675 destination charge, and frankly, making a 450 easier to ride might be the performance upgrade that matters most.2027 Yamaha WR450F2027 Yamaha WR450F2027 Yamaha WR450FAdvertisementAdvertisement2027 Yamaha WR450F2027 Yamaha WR450F2027 Yamaha WR450F2027 Yamaha WR450FAdvertisementAdvertisement2027 Yamaha WR450F2027 Yamaha WR450FSource: Yamaha, Motorcycle.com
