Ask Mazda why the MX-5 Miata doesn't have a bigger engine or more power, and you'll get a list of reasons longer than the car itself. Most of those reasons are even really good ones, but that doesn't stop potential customers from wanting more. Now customers in more countries will be able to get more, as V6-Miata-maker Rocketeer Cars has just added a whole new continent to its sales network. Rocketeer Adds EU Distributor Rocketeer CarsUK-based Rocketeer Cars has just announced that it has a mainland EU installer, SPS Motorsport in Germany. Along with that new installer, it has gotten TUV approval, which was necessary to sell in some key EU markets. The TUV is like Germany's equivalent to the NHTSA, but a lot more hands on. Well, it's several groups across the country that are charged with handling a wide range of technical safety inspections, but the groups also handle vehicle safety. Getting the approval is a big deal, and allows SPS to deliver Rocketeer cars in the EU. They're already available in the US, thanks to the addition of an approved installer here last year.Rocketeer offers V6 engine conversions for the NA, NB, and NC generations of the MX-5. That's cars from the start of the line up until model year 2014. It offers three different main products, ranging from very custom restomod cars to turnkey conversions on otherwise stock cars, and even kits to let you do the build yourself. 350 Hp In Mazda's Best-Selling Sports Car Rocketeer Cars Whichever a customer chooses, the starting point is one of Mazda's light and sweet-handling MX-5 Miatas. From there, a 3.0-liter V6 is the new heart of the car. The source for this engine is a strange one, at least from this side of the pond. It's Jaguar's AJ30 3.0-liter V6, found in the Jaguar S-Type and X-Type.How did a Jaguar engine developed by Porsche with cylinder heads from Cosworth end up in a Miata? The Jaguar V6 was designed and built when Ford owned Jaguar. It was based on the Duratec V6 that Ford used in countless small cars like the Contour. At the time, Ford also had a very strong partnership with Mazda, so the Duratec was also used in the Mazda 6.So really, this is a factory engine swap. Or at least you can spin it that way if you need to. As standard, the engines make up to 240 horsepower. Rocketeer will rebuild them to make up to 350 horsepower and rev to 9,000. Not bad for a car that weighs barely over a ton.The German MX-5s will be in good hands. SPS Motorsport has been in the Miata game since 2012, and has made headlines with records like making 2,900 hairpin turns in 12 hours and building the fastest MX-5 ever around the Nürburgring. At the end of last year, Rocketeer said that it had completed around 30 cars for customers, but that it had sold 170 engine kits for customers who wanted a DIY option. This new distribution could help grow the former number quickly.
