Range Rover GT Toes the Line Between Sedan and SUVRange RoverThere's a new shape coming to the Range Rover family, and this one is the most sedan- and car-like yet. Its exterior is still covered in camouflage, but this is the Range Rover GT.Coupe SUVs are plentiful on the ground these days, and while the Velar and Evoque squash their respective rear ends in a nod to the trend, the GT takes the design to an even greater extreme. The "GT" name is quite literal, as Range Rover is pitching this vehicle as one that aims to redefine the "grand touring segment" in a "uniquely Range Rover way." In other words, the car promises to be a comfortable, long-haul cruiser, but it keeps an eye on off-road performance just like other Range Rovers do.Range RoverThe GT will initially launch as an EV, but a hybrid model is promised "later in the lifecycle." Specific launch dates have not been provided for the hybrid, but more details are promised later this year. No matter the powertrain, every GT will be riding on Range Rover's new EMA platform, and it will be the first vehicle to do so. With the new platform comes a completely new interior, and this part of the car is left fully uncamouflaged.Range RoverThe new interior design is a stark change from the current Range Rover aesthetic, even if some themes look familiar. The center console is entirely devoid of buttons or switches, leaving the large central touchscreen infotainment system as the car's command center. It's mounted to the dash tablet-style and is paired with a wide but short driver display also protruding from the dash. This small screen serves as the replacement for a traditional instrument cluster.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe steering wheel is the main source of physical controls in the cabin. It adopts a new two-spoke design and blends in quite harmoniously with the simple, horizontal aesthetic of the instrument panel. Range Rover says a single, concealed vent runs the width of the dash to serve as the cabin's air vents. The woven textile trim you see wrapping the dash even hides speakers behind it in yet another nod to the reductive design theme Range Rover is going for.Range RoverOne photo of the rear seat reveals that the GT will be offered in a four-seat configuration with the central area occupied by a screen and storage. Details here are thin, but Range Rover promises "class-leading second-row legroom" for those considering this as a potential family car.And that's all we get for now. Specs and the final exterior design will arrive soon enough for the incoming fifth member of the Range Rover lineup. You Might Also LikeIf You Can Only Own One Car, Make It One of TheseThese Are the Most Popular Cars by State
