It appears that Lexus has just killed off its first all-electric model. Its first EV was a short-range version, sold in China, Japan, and Europe. The Lexus UX 300e was based on the smallest Lexus sold in most markets, and it was never particularly popular. If buyers want their Japanese luxury cars all-electric going forward, they'll need to step up to the larger and pricier RZ instead. Gone For Months Before Anyone Called Lexus News of the UX 300e's disappearance comes from Auto Express, and it shows just how unloved the EV was. Someone at the site noticed the model was gone from the company's website so they reached out to Lexus UK. Someone there pointed out that it was removed from the market "in late 2025."Checking Lexus sites around the world shows a similar story. It's gone from all of them, even in China where the model was first revealed back in 2019. We've reached out to Lexus, but since the UX 300e was never sold here, we're not expecting an answer.Lexus The UX 300e was an early attempt at an electric, and the spec sheet shows it. The 300e came with a 54.3-kilowatt-hour battery, enough for just 186 miles on the WLTP test cycle. You can't directly convert the figures, but we would expect that to be under 140 miles in the US. For reference, the newer Toyota bZ delivers an estimated 236 miles from a 57.7-kWh pack, showing how much the vehicles have advanced.Later UZ 300e variants increased range estimates thanks to a larger 72.8-kWh battery pack. That gave it an estimated 280 miles on the WLTP cycle, but it still wasn't put on sale in the US.The Lexus EV was also hampered by its CHAdeMo charge connector. That DC fast charging protocol, which was created in Japan and used internationally by Nissan and Mitsubishi, is slow, limited to just 50 kW. It's also becoming harder to find at charging stations, with all other manufacturers using either the CCS port in Europe or switching to the NACS protocol in the US and Canada. Rest Of Dated UX Line Lives On Lexus The rest of the Lexus UX lineup doesn't seem to be going anywhere. The UX hybrid remains on sale in Europe. The UX 300h is on sale in the US for model year 2026 as well, carrying over for the year. In 2025, the 300h replaced the UX 250h and generated 196 horsepower from its engine and two electric motors, an improvement from its predecessor's 181 hp.Although it's still on sale, the current UX must be due for a replacement soon. The 2019 launch makes the little crossover now seven model years old, which is an eternity in vehicle terms. It has seen updates over the years, but those were all smaller changes. We haven't heard anything about that replacement, but cutting the 300e could be a sign that it is coming. It's common for automakers to end production of some less popular versions of a model as it readies a replacement. That's often centered around parts availability, as the automaker makes the decision that another full order from suppliers would be too many or too expensive for the time the model has left.
