Jeep and Ram Delay Their Extended-Range EVs AgainRamJeep and Ram are delaying a pair of upcoming plug-in hybrid models, seemingly due to powertrain issues, according to an Automotive News report. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer Hybrid's production is now expected to start in November, with the Ram 1500 REV's arrival scheduled for mid-April.A spokesperson for Ram told Car and Driver that the 1500 REV is on track for a 2027 arrival; a Jeep spokesman told C/D that plans are on track for this year.Better late than never, as they say. Jeep and Ram are pushing back the arrival of the Grand Wagoneer Hybrid and the 1500 REV, respectively, according to a report by Automotive News. The Grand Wagoneer Hybrid, which was originally expected to start production in May of this year, is now planned for a November start, six months after its initial target. The delays are even more notable for the Ram, whose arrival was scheduled for the second half of 2025—though that was back when the REV went by the name Ramcharger. A decision to cancel production of its fully electric pickup coincided with a delay of the plug-in hybrid truck to "sometime in 2026," a spokesperson told C/D last year. According to the AN report, the truck will now arrive in mid-April.JeepTwo executives at suppliers working on both models—which share a powertrain—reportedly told AN that the arrivals have been pushed back to safeguard a smooth rollout of the new plug-in hybrid system. The series plug-in hybrid models, more commonly referred to as extended-range electric vehicles, combine a 400-volt battery with a 3.6-liter V-6 and a gas-fed onboard generator. The kicker is that the V-6 doesn't actually power the wheels; instead, it solely powers the generator that charges the battery as needed.AdvertisementAdvertisementIn a statement to Car and Driver, a Ram spokesperson said that "plans continue to be a 2027 arrival for Ram 1500 REV." Separately, a Jeep spokesman told C/D that the brand's plans are on track for this year.➡️ Skip the lot.
