Jeep Is Now The “Official 4×4 Of Moab” After Agreeing To Sponsor TownGuessing HeadlightsAndre NalinSun, September 20, 2026 at 6:00 PM UTCAdd us on GoogleImage Credit: Stellantis. There are few places as closely associated with Jeep as Moab, Utah. The red-rock landscape has become practically inseparable from images of Wranglers crawling over rocks, tackling trails, and generally doing the things Jeep owners insist their vehicles were built to do.The relationship goes back decades, helped enormously by the Easter Jeep Safari. The annual gathering has turned Moab into something of a pilgrimage destination for Jeep enthusiasts, while giving the automaker a spectacular backdrop for showing off its latest off-road concepts.Jeep has now decided to put a title on that relationship. It just happens to be one that sounds suspiciously like something you'd see plastered across the side of a sports stadium.AdvertisementAdvertisementFollowing approval from the Moab City Council, Jeep can officially market itself as the "Official 4×4 of Moab." As first reported locally by The Times-Independent, the designation comes through a two-year sponsorship agreement that gives the city cash, vehicles, event support, and some serious marketing muscle.Jeep Gets The Name, Moab Gets The MoneyImage Credit: Jeep.Under the agreement with FCA US LLC, Moab will receive $125,000 per year in unrestricted funding. The city can decide how that money is spent, although City Manager Michael Black suggested some could fund a half-time position in the Arts and Special Events department to handle additional work created by the partnership.Jeep will provide another $100,000 in estimated annual value through five loaned vehicles for city use, trail stewardship and restoration efforts, and community-event sponsorships. Those events include the Red Rock Arts Festival and a celebration of the 125th anniversary of Moab's incorporation. The agreement also calls for an additional multi-day event in 2028.Then There's $10 Million In MarketingPerhaps the biggest number attached to the partnership isn't the money going directly into Moab's coffers. Jeep is also expected to provide marketing support valued at over $10 million annually, roughly five times the amount the Moab Office of Tourism currently works with.AdvertisementAdvertisementThat scale prompted some concern among council members about corporate branding potentially overwhelming Moab's own identity. City officials said advertising created under the partnership would be reviewed and approved with input from local tourism organizations and other partners.Councilor Miles Loftin also noted that automakers already use Moab's distinctive landscapes to advertise their vehicles. From that perspective, an official partnership gives the city something tangible in return.A Relationship Decades In The MakingImage Credit: JeepThis isn't exactly a corporation picking a random town and slapping its logo on it. The first Easter Jeep Safari took place in 1967, and Jeep continues to use the event to showcase concepts and connect with off-road enthusiasts. The City Council ultimately approved the agreement 4-0, with Councilor Jason Taylor recusing himself because of his connections to local Jeep rental and tourism businesses.AdvertisementAdvertisementFor now, the deal is a two-year pilot, after which Moab and Jeep can decide whether to continue. Until then, your 4Runner, Bronco, or Defender is still perfectly welcome in Moab — it just won't be the town's "Official 4×4."If you want more stories like this, follow Guessing Headlights on Yahoo so you don't miss what's coming next.
