The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 Aims to Be the BenchmarkGMCGeneral Motors dominates the full-size pickup truck market in the United States, largely due to its products sitting under both the Chevy and GMC brands. Following the recent debut of the enhanced 2027 Chevrolet Silverado, the General revealed its all-new 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 on Tuesday, which packs a ridiculous amount of tech and luxurious appointments into that utilitarian form factor.Like the Silverado, the new Sierra is visually similar to its predecessor, with a few notable tweaks that enhance the design. The grille is now even more upright, with revised lighting elements that help to refine the fascia we've come to associate with the brand. The lights also feature a new set of animations this time around, further leaning into GMC's upmarket vibe. Each of the individual trim levels also gets a few unique styling touches to help tell them apart, with items like different hoods, optional quad-pipe exhausts, revised bumpers, and bespoke wheel options. Overall, it's a handsome truck, though it may be hard for some buyers to tell it apart from its predecessor.GMCThe 2027 GMC Sierra lineup consists of four main trim levels: Pro, Elevation, AT4, and Denali. That said, the automaker has also confirmed that hardcore off-roaders will also be able to snag an AT4X and AT4X AEV variant as well. The entry-level AT4 features a rear locker and some Rancho monotube shocks, while the AT4X models add a 2-inch lift, Multimatic DSSV dampers with jounce control, 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory tires, and e-lockers front and rear. The AEV variant brings more armor and some trail-ready style upgrades. For those who need the utter pinnacle of pickup luxury, a Denali Ultimate model will serve as the range -topper, completely loaded with upgraded interior materials and all the tech GM has on offer. Unfortunately, General Motors is not yet interested in sharing pricing details about the trucks. The automaker said we will learn these details before too long, as it intends to sell these updated trucks before year's end.AdvertisementAdvertisementThe powertrain lineup for the 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 is identical to that of the Silverado. The 2.7-liter TurboMax turbocharged inline-four and the Duramax 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-six both return as carryover engines, while the outgoing V-8s have been replaced with the latest sixth-generation Small Block V-8s. The smaller of the two is a 5.7-liter unit, with the larger being a 6.6-liter lump. The latter is not related to the 6.6-liter gas engine found in the brand's HD models, and is more closely related to the LS6 engine found in the Corvette Grand Sport and Stingray models. GM claims that the 6.6-liter is the most powerful naturally aspirated V-8 in its segment. We'll have to take their word for it, as the brand is not ready to share output figures at this time. We do know that the engines are slated to be built at GM's Flint, Tonawanda, and St. Catharines production facilities, however. Every 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 will feature GM's 10-speed automatic. Both rear- and four-wheel drive configurations will be on offer.GMCAs always, the interior appointments are what really separate the GM truck offerings from one another. The 2027 GMC Sierra brings niceties like genuine wood trim (forged wood on the range-toppers), an available panoramic sunroof, a 16-speaker Bose audio system, GM's new multi-function center console that doubles as a workspace, and more screens than one could ever believe is possible. In fact, the Denali Ultimate will arrive with more than 60 inches worth of screen strewn about the cabin: a 16.3-inch diagonal infotainment screen, a 12.2-inch digital cluster, an 11.5-inch passenger display, a 15-inch multicolor Head Up Display, and an 8.5-inch digital rearview mirror. That center screen also now doubles as storage, which is a fun trick borrowed from Corvettes of yore. GM's Super Cruise ADAS system will also be available in specific models, though the Denali Ultimate will come as standard with three years of service as part of the purchase price."With the next-generation Sierra 1500, we're bringing together a new generation of Small Block V8 power, precise off-road capability, and our most immersive cabin experience to date," said Michael MacPhee, global vice president, Buick & GMC. "Denali Ultimate and AT4X solidify Sierra as the most powerful, most advanced, and most luxurious trucks we've ever built. The next-generation Sierra is the truck all others will be measured against."GMCWe will update you with all of the specs related to each trim level, as well as the pricing information that goes along with it, as soon as GM is ready to share. Given that the trucks should hit dealers by the holidays, we expect GMC to start getting a little loose-lipped come the end of the summer.
