Red Oxide will be offered on every 2027 Dodge Charger for $695. The maroon shade debuted at Woodward Dream Cruise. It joins Purple Haze and six other factory Charger paint choices. Dodge is giving the 2027 Charger one more way to look aggressive while it’s sitting still. The company calls the color “a new deep, dark red,” though photos of the Charger, and of the Durango that already wears it, read closer to burgundy or maroon with a dark brownish-red cast. It will be available across the entire lineup when books open next month, with the option priced at $695. The paint does nothing for the powertrain, but it’s a cheap way to keep your car from disappearing into a row of identical ones. Dodge first showed Red Oxide on a Charger Scat Pack at its Woodward Dream Cruise display. It appeared alongside the new 600-horsepower Charger Super Bee, a Durango R/T 392 Smokescreen concept, and various custom-color and graphics-package cars. The automaker also displayed a Toxic Orange Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak and the rather bluntly named Cha Ching Charger Scat Pack. Red Oxide is already available on the Durango, but 2027 will mark its Charger debut. Dodge says the color changes depending on the light. That’s a good reason to view it in person rather than simply on a configurator before signing anything. More importantly, it will be available whether buyers choose gasoline or electric power. That means it can be ordered on the 420-hp Charger R/T, the 550-hp Charger Scat Pack, the 600-hp Super Bee Launch Edition, and the 670-hp Charger Daytona Scat Pack. All current Charger models come standard with all-wheel drive and are offered as either a two-door coupe or four-door sedan. Frankly, it’s one of the most practical performance sedans offered by an American brand in years. That said, the key here more than anything else is the customizability. Red Oxide is only the latest new color on offer in addition to Purple Haze, Bludicrous, Green Machine, Redeye, Sub-Zero, White Knuckle, and Diamond Black in the Charger palette. Dodge can call it an “attitude statement” all it wants, but the underlying strategy is simple. Adding a bit of factory personalization offers buyers a new way to marginally stand out. At $695, Red Oxide is also much easier to justify than many appearance packages.
