Cars come in a range of monochromatic colors for a reason. Everyone out there building cars is trying to sell as many as possible. A hot pink car won't sell like a silver one will. Rivian, though it has a solid arsenal of interesting hues behind it, knows this. Speaking to The Drive, the company said that it still sees a place for wacky, out-there colors, even if they can't be offered consistently by the brand.Rivian’s Chief Design Officer, Jeff Hammoud said the company is investigating ways to bring fun, niche color choices to the handful of buyers who do want them. Rather than offering them on a full-time basis, Hammoud said that he plans to offer the colors as limited-run special one-offs. Rivian is already testing the waters with this, having offered a limited Miami Edition R1S last fall. The SUV was loud and very, very Floridian, massively limiting its widespread appeal. However, there was clearly enough interest in this and other more diverse Rivian colors to justify a closer look.“We see them as like cool sneaker drops, where we could do these other editions that come out,” Hammoud said. “They’re for a low, little run. And while the Miami one was very bold, a lot of people loved it and some people were like, ‘I wouldn’t drive that.'”AdvertisementAdvertisement“When you design a car that has to meet the masses and a lot of people, you automatically have to go to a little bit more safer, more neutral,” Hammoud said. “But then we also see that with our colors. Like our Compass Yellow is one of our lowest take-rate colors when we had it, but the people who have it absolutely love it. And that’s where we want to be able to offer some of these things in ways that cater to some of those customers who are a little bit more adventurous, but still meeting our core demographic.”This story was originally published by Men's Journal on May 29, 2026, where it first appeared in the News section.
